Has anyone tested whether you can move a digital license from an old computer with Windows 10 to a new computer with Windows 11 via a Microsoft Account using the activation troubleshooter?

Well, it seems now you can transfer digital licences from a physical machine to a Hyper-V virtual machine now (that did not used to be allowed). So you could try moving it to Win 11.Hyper-V vm?

Aa you are aware I am sure "transfer" is somewhat of a euphemism. Naturally, you will delete vm after proving concept.

It shouldn't make any difference whether either machine is running 10 or 11. The digital license does not appear to make any distinction between the two, it's a license for Windows 10/11.

I did successfully use the activation troubleshooter once when I had problems moving a VM from an old host to a new one. In the end I created a completely new VM on the new host and used the activation troubleshooter to transfer the digital license. See Post #14 here:

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package.

Yes, I will end up testing it myself, I was just wondering if anyone else had already done it.

My beta pc is using the digital license that was on its predecessor when the motherboard failed and activated after Microsoft asked me if the hardware had been changed. It is likely that the original W8 software had been a full licence and not OEM. By luck, the hardware change also qualified for W11 so I had a win win situation.
