Unable to change Display Resolution in VM

That video helps. After I installed the Guest Additions I could change my resolution. Currently I have it set to 1280x960. Note the maximum you can set it depends upon your computers display resolution. My laptops display is 1920x1080.

Hi there
as you've discovered you do need to have the "Virtual Video driver" installed on the VM to access all the resolutions available. On Vbox this is in "Guest Additions", on VMWare it's in Vmware Tools, and if you use a KVM Linux Host for Windows VM's the appropriate video driver is available from the virtio ISO downloadable from the Fedora site or from git.

Hyper-V users can obviously use windows drivers -- also if you can physically pass thru a video card to the VM then you can also use native windows video drivers.

Note with Virtual video drivers you CAN set the resolution to greater than your physical display depending on the virtualisation software you are using - but you will need to do a lot of scrolling so not worth it !!!.

In VBox you can have the screen resolution depending on the size of the window of the virtual machine.
Under Menu-item "View" activate "Auto-resize Guest Display":
That's only possible after activating Guest Addtions of course!
