I'm using Outlook (part of Office 2019 Pro Plus) as my email client.
I get the brown envelope notification of new email in the taskbar, but when I go to the app there is no notification of new mail against any email account. With 7 email accounts, I have to click the flippy-triangle for each account until I find the new email. When using Thunderbird or Apple Mail, there is always a 'New Mail' badge against the relevant email account. Having scoured the settings, I can find no way to activate this…

How do you have set the option to mark the message as read?

Try with different settings. Or maybe you have another system which is checking mail, and (in the case of Exchange servers) if the mail is viwed on one system, it is marked as read on al of them

Hi, Thanks. I have the message change to Read after a delay of 5 seconds. This gives me sufficient time to quickly glance at the message and click off it - which leaves it as Unread - if I need to come back to it later.
Just to clarify - the mailboxes (Inbox, Junk etc) show the unread message count, but in order to see this, I have to click on each account in turn to expand the mailbox menu, to find which account has the unread message. By contrast, Apple Mail and Thunderbird have the Unread Message badge on the account name, so it's instantly obvious where the unread message lies without having to expand the mailbox menu for each account.
I hope this helps explain things a little better.

But.. so does Outlook. At least here. I have Office 365, and it is the same in Office 2019, 2016, 2013 etc
Even Windows Mail app does that...
Can you post a picture of your Outlook? Blur your accounts...

And if you click on notification about mail.. it takes you directly to that message

Hopefully these 4 pictures (2 Outlook, 2 Thunderbird) clarify my problem and what I'm trying to achieve.

Understand now, I'm not aware of any option in Outlook (Office) that would enable this. Admit, this indication is useful, and should be present. It is even in Mail app under Windows

Maybe you could send MS a feedback?

OK, Thanks. So it's not just me then and there's not a simple setting somewhere that I've overlooked.
It would surely be so simple to implement...
Thanks,
Brian
