Update Install Error 0x800f0825

Hi all.

I did a repair install of Windows 11 24H2 tonight to fix an issue I was having with Windows Sandbox.

When I try to install KB5044284 I get error 0x800f0825.

Can anyone help? I tried installing manually from Microsoft Catalog download with no success.

I also did an In-Place Upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2.

If you have any trouble with regular Cumulative updates after upgrading to 24H2, you can do the following...
Credit to @boombastik for figuring this out.

1) In Windows Update, disable the option: Get the latest updates as soon as they're available.
2) Restart the computer.
3) Search for updates.
4) This should allow the Cumulative updates to install without errors.
5) If you still have update errors after this... you have something else causing the problem.

Maybe you need to turn it on, then restart the computer?
I seem to recall, some had to do that?

This was the issue that caused that error on .1742
The computer needed to install KB5043080... first. THEN the regular updates would function.
KB5043080 is a new SSU Servicing Stack update, (an update to the updater).

Maybe the solution was just to "toggle" the Get the latest updates as soon as they're available.
In other words, just flip that switch... from whatever position it was in?

BUT... the underlying problem was that KB5043080 was NOT getting installed... first.

I had the exact same error when trying to do WU from .1742, see that here...

The only other thing I remember doing was running Shawn's .bat file "before" all these other things we tried...

I believe I did things in this order, when I saw the 0x800f0825 fail...

1. When I noticed the fail... I ran Shawn's .bat file. No luck
2. Looked for KB5043178 at MS Update catalog. It "also" listed KB5043080.
3. Then I turned off... Get the latest updates as soon as they're available., rebooted and checked updates.
4. This time WU only downloaded and installed KB5043080
5. Rebooted after that and checked updates again and saw KB5043178, and this time it installed.

Maybe you should try installing KB5043178 from the Update catalog, too?

This was the order of the Updates since 26100.1742... these are the MS Update Catalog links...

I was having that error and tried resetting Windows update as well. I ended up going through a lot of pain to finally get it to work. I initially tried a standard repair by reinstall...it wouldn't work. I have (2) WD SN770s...1TB and 2TB. I have Windows on the 1TB that didn't require the now-required firmware update. There is no firmware update for the 1TB...however...Windows setup would not run giving me an error that it was incompatible hardware. Anyways, I used Rufus and a complete Windows ISO (not created by Media Creation Tool) to attempt again. I left updates on (takes longer but I hoped that might work). It did...as soon as I got Windows up and running, Windows update successfully completed the update. SFC issue that a lot of people were complaining about and the bug with cleaning Windows Update cache changed from 8.6GB to 190MB...still some more to fix.

Now that you're ON 24H2... you could try another In-Place Upgrade to the latest version?
I see you don't have any WD or Sandisk drives.

Who knows... it might just work. If it doesn't, it will just fail and set you back to 26100.1742

MS's MCT might only have the 26100.1742 version?

Here's a little UUPDump guide... (yes, I know is says 23H2... just use the 24H2 link, above)

Grab any of the ones that do NOT have the word "update" in their title. Those are just... updates.

As for the rest, choose: arm64 for ARM processors, or amd64 for all normal CPUs.

Here's a little picture guide for UUP Dump...

This is what's in the zip file you will download.
Use the command shown in the RED box to start the ISO creation.
Just extract the zip to a new folder, and double click the command.

Do NOT close the Command Prompt window until it tells you to.
It will say something like: "press zero to exit". THAT is when it's finished.

Once the ISO is created... just Mount it and run setup.exe like any normal In-Place Upgrade.

OK. I have tried -

Sfc.exe /Scannow
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

net stop wuauserv
rd /s /q %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
net start wuauserv

Manually deleting the SoftwareDistribution & catroot2 folders

Running the .bat file - Reset Windows Update in Windows 11 Tutorial

When I try to install the update I get - Install error - 0x80070005

I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Yes, it's quite common for third-party security software to interfere with Windows Update, it's why many users on this forum will suggest that you disable or remove it while doing feature updates as well.
