KB5056579 is a cumulative .net update. To apply this update, you must have .NET Framework 3.5 or 4.8.1 installed. Verify that you do before applying that update.

Neither of those .net versions are on my computer. All I have active are newer versions 6.0.25 and 6.0.36

KB5055627 is a cumulative update preview which will become a regular monthly cumulative on 5/13/25

Just updated my Win11Pro 24H2 to 26100.3915 (always do it manually using metered connection in network settings).
Because I am indeed using .NET Framework 3.5 the update KB5054979 was offered too.
That update was no problem.

Problems I had was installing the older update KB5053598 2025-03 Cum. upd. Win11 24H2 x64, that Windows wanted to install (althought it already was installed earlier). Download continuously failed (reported almost immediately) . Then I used the Prelimary update KB5055627, which was succesfull and brought me to the 26100.3915 version.

So had no problems with either update KB5053598 or KB5055627.

You might check your system like this:

None of your suggestions worked, checked them all. Windows Update is not downloading files for KB5056579 and KB5055627 showing error 0x8004054. running DISM commands were unsuccessful. My rig is deeply sick.

Here are my notes about windows update problems with all the steps I usually use, checking WU between each one.. You may have done some of them already but I don't think anyone has suggested a repair install which is the final step on my list.

Common Fixes for Windows Update Errors
  • Restart Your PC. A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches. Disable your AV as well. Check the free space on your system drive (usually C:). Ensure you have at least 10-15 GB of free space

  • Check System Date & Time. Right-click the clock on the taskbar and select Adjust date and time.
  • Ensure Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically are enabled.
  • If they are already on, toggle them off and then back on. Click Sync now under Additional settings.
  • Issues with essential system services. Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
In the Services window, locate the following services. Check their startup type:

Windows Update - Set to Automatic or Manual.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) - Set to Automatic (Delayed Start) or Manual.

Cryptographic Services Set to Automatic

Windows Installer- Set to Manual

App Readiness- Set to Manual.

For each of those services:

Right-click the service name.

If the service is running, click Restart.

If the service is stopped, click Start.
  • Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
  • Settings>System>Troubleshoot>Other Troubleshooters. Then restart.

  • Corrupted Windows Update components or cache. Reset Windows Update in Windows 11
  • Corrupted system file. Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM
Run SFC Scan

Open Command Prompt as administrator (search for cmd, right-click, Run as administrator).

Type the command: sfc /scannow

Press Enter and wait for the scan to complete (this may take some time).

Note the results. If it found and fixed errors, restart your PC and try updating.

Run DISM Scan

If SFC didn’t fix the issue or couldn’t run, use DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) to repair the Windows image.

Open Command Prompt as administrator.

Type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

[c[DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth[/c]

(Note: The RestoreHealth command may take considerable time and requires an internet connection.)

Restart your computer after the DISM scans complete.

Manually Download and Install the Update via Microsoft Update Catalog

Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Search for the specific KB number, ex: KB5055523. (Note: If this KB number is very new, specific to an Insider build, or does not officially exist, it may not be listed here. In such cases, this method won’t be possible for this exact KB.)

Find the version matching your Windows 11 system architecture (usually x64 for modern PCs). Look for “Windows 11” in the description.

Click the Download button next to the correct version.

A pop-up window will appear with a download link (.msu file). Click the link to download the file.

Once downloaded, double-click the .msu file to start the standalone installation process.

Follow the on-screen prompts and restart your PC if required.

Try to apply the update in a clean boot state. https://www.elevenforum.com/t/perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-11-to-troubleshoot-software-conflicts.2787/

Perform a repair install.

Out of interest, can you check to see if Windows Sandbox is checked? If so, uncheck it.
If it isn’t checked, please ignore.

Hi Good People, Previously reported issues with KB5055627, KB5056579, 0x80040154 and Trustedinstaller are sorted out/fixed by using Fortec installed program and run in trial mode, removing manually found files, logs, fixing, again, manually all faults and malware. Finally , uninstalled Fortec, using Revo Uninstall and rebooted my rig. All fixed and good. Thank you Fortec for allowing trial run.

Hi Good People, Previously reported issues with KB5055627, KB5056579, 0x80040154 and Trustedinstaller are sorted out/fixed by using Fortect, installed program and run in trial mode, removed manually found files, logs. Fixed manually all faults and malware. Finally , uninstalled Fortect, using Revo Uninstall and rebooted my rig. All fixed and good. Thank you Fortect for allowing trial run.

Because you are promoting the use of Fortect (you posted a quote of your own answer without any comment), I have been searching for reviews.
Very many reviews praise that app, but as far as I can judge, many of them are bot-reviews.
But there are many reviews telling me, that the program does not solve anything until you take a yearly licence. And even then, problems tend to stay and uninstalling the app is very difficult.

So I will not even install the trial run, would prefer to either use the built-in tools of Windows or do a in place upgrade.

My impression is you started this thread in the first place to promote Fortect at the end...

It has been discussed in similar threads. The updates are either corrupted and you have to delete them and try again, or they are already installed and the update cache is old, or newer updates have rendered them obsolete. In any case open File Explorer, click the Windows drive and then select Cleanup from the drive tools. Click to also show advanced options. Make sure you check the box for Windows Update cache. Restart and search for updates again.

To Kees, I rejected the notion that I work for mentioned above software mob, which I used, in trial mode, to fix my computer problems. AS I wrote above, all suggested fixes were not working for me. After about 7 hours of looking for and trying possible solutions, I came across the pack that solved my problems. I do not promote that company, I am not a troll from Russia or China, and I haven found any solution from Kees that would suggest any fixes. If you, Kees, do not have anything constructive to say, better be quiet. Cheers.

My experience is that the people that scream the loudest about any perceived criticism usually have something to hide.

I had a look at Fortec and I didn't like it being a trial version. I would prefer a free utility such as CCleaner. Also I don't trust utilities that mess with the Registry, unless I know or can control exactly what they do and I can undo it if necessary.
