Solved Upgrade from 24H2 to 25H2 failed. Is it possible to upgrade with the "Repair this PC" option ?

Hey all.


I tried to upgrade to 25H2 , but at the end i take a message "The installation of Windows failed" :

I tried with 4 ways :
1) Running the ISO from my desktop
2) Running the ISO from an external NVME disk
3) Running the ISO from a flash USB
3) Create an installation media USB via MS's page , with the installation assstant.
In that case it gives me only the ability for a clean install.

MS here says that
"

Cloud downloadThis option downloads a fresh copy of Windows from the cloud, ensuring you get the latest version with all updates. It's useful if your local files are corrupted or missing.
".

Here i have 2 questions :
1) It will install 25H2 or 24H2 (repair) ?
2) Will I be able to choose to keep my files and applications ?

Yep... the Enablement Package is the way to go.
Takes about 3 seconds and a reboot.


Most of 25H2 is already installed in 24H2, but it's disabled.
The Enablement Package, just turns everything... ON.

MS did this also, going from 22H2 to 23H2.

Well, if it doesn't work... then you have some other issue causing the problem.

That is normal. The Update History only records updates that were downloaded and installed by Window Update itself. That also applies to any cumulative updates that were installed using a standalone package from Microsoft's Update Catalog.

You will however find them listed in 'Uninstall updates'.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

That is normal. The Update History only records updates that were downloaded and installed by Window Update itself. That also applies to any cumulative updates that were installed using a standalone package from Microsoft's Update Catalog.

You will however find them listed in 'Uninstall updates'.

Alright, great. I wish I could delete the new thread I just posted.

I did install this Update Package last night but was very suspicious because it was so fast. I went back to the restore point I created to remove it. The file was not from this site though. I'll install the Update Package from here.

You should be able to delete it by deleting the first post in the thread.

If not, then click on 'Report' at the bottom of the post 1762359614681.webp and ask the Admins to delete it for you.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I'm pretty sure the same link will work for all insider and non-Insider channels.
I "know" that the 25H2 KB for 26200.xxxx and the KB for the DEV channel are the same KB number.

All the Enablement Package does is "enable" features that are already present in 24H2 but are in the disabled state.
As I mentioned above... installing the Enablement Package takes three seconds and a reboot.
