Solved Upgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10?

Though i am used to 11 now, over time i have the perception that "updates" have been the only change that i can account for that has been slowing my computer down.

In addition to that, i notice a lot of negative commentaries on YouTube, with a few cheerleaders for 11 whose presentations appear more like they are simply trying to "suck-up" to Microsoft.

I am not stating that the above are factual cause and effect nor reports. They do, however, give me motivation to ask the experts here (this being my most trusted source) your thoughts on reverting and what troubles i might cause for myself in doing so.

I am not so worried about the latest exploit nor security enhancement. It really seems to me that there is a paranoia culture growing that perhaps is being intentionally amplified. I am not that interesting of a target, and if someone wants a picture of me at the dentist or the lizard of which i recently took a picture, all they need do is ask, for that is about the most interesting thing i have on this computer. Yet i am behind a router and i do maintain a firewall and run a couple antimalware programs just in case i ever did do something stupid and open a malicious attachment or link.

I guess the one thing i must look out for is a version of W10 that would provide similar support as "11 Pro for Workstations" provides for ECC RAM and multiple processors, but with all that and the 16GB of RAM on board, i don't know why this thing is running as slow as my computers of five or ten years ago seemed to run-

Thank you for kindly being willing to share your expertise! I once was at the front of technology, even getting a new computer almost twice a year, but around the year 2000 when finances crashed, technology blew past me like standing on the wrong platform when a bullet train flies by.

And btw - moving from W11 to W10 is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

The only way 'upgrade' / regress to Windows 10 from 11 is to do a clean install of Windows 10; with the possible loss of all your apps /data UNLESS you secure these separately from the OS. The tools to clean install Windows 10 can be found here.

Support for Windws 10 will cease in October 2025, so you need to be mindful of this,

If your Windows 11 is 'running slow', first try to delete any 'crud' on your device.

In that i have seen many complaints over W11 performance, which i listen to but do not take as fact yet, and as my W11 performance has become sluggish considering when i first got this computer (12/2022) to now, i am first looking for trusted expert advice as to whether or not W11 deserves the criticism i have seen on YouTube - i well know there is a lot of BS there.

If W11 is better engineered and should run quicker than W10, then i am looking for assistance in determining why when i first got this computer it ran much quicker.

I also realize that my total perception is by my use of two programs, Outlook and Excel. Up until yesterday i was on MS365. I have deleted that and installed Office 2021 Pro. I admit that i need to give some time to assess present performance in the event that the sluggishness was a 365 matter or if i still have it with 2021.

I got a new HP Notebook in early Dec., it was quite inexpensive and about half the value was a year of Microsoft 365, had to learn the newer stuff. Win11 Home works just fine with 4GB RAM and 128GB NVMe drive but it's not a gaming or heavy lifting machine, have others for that. Everything I had/have on Win10 works good on Win11, just there's some visual changes from Win10 that one has to get used to such as more things from Control Panel are on the right-click of the Start button/Windows Key. There's a number of places in Win11 that will still identify as Win10 but not a problem. One other thing in appearance is the centering of icons on the Taskbar, sort of a copy of Mac OS but then there's a few versions of Linux doing the same thing. Also on Win11 in addition to Command Prompt is Terminal which actually opens PowerShell but then Mac OS and versions of Linux also have a similar Terminal.

most times I've seen such an issue has been with older programs.

Most Youtube channels these days are monetised. I believe (as with many things) the negative attracts more attention than the positive. Many content creators know this and will create a negative as they know that people can’t take their eyes off a train wreck (so to speak) And that people might feel inclined to watch a negative with concern that there is something they should know. Not unlike News stories. News is nearly always focused on the negative as apposed to all the wonderful things in this world that they could be showing us. Negative sells. This of course is just my opinion.

As mentioned; If you’re having specific issues, create threads for those issues and people will help. Make them and they will come.
Like zbook said, you have 17 months to stay on Windows Ten, by then Windows 12 will be here.
Perhaps stay on Eleven so as to keep a closer link to the transition.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to downgrade to Windows Ten. There is help here for Windows Eleven.

I fear to address the decline in speed is going to take some technical dissection; my biggest fear is not properly expressing what i see and thereby wasting someone's time but i will create a separate post and see what can be found.

It is your decision to make. But be assured, members will be as comprehensive to you as they may need to be, where possible. And I assure you, members here are eager to help when they can, rarely is it seen by anyone as time wasting. The entire froum is about giving help to another person.

Again, you are not listing any specific issues you are having other than your system has become "sluggish" and you mention two apps, but not any issues with them. WHAT in particular is sluggish, and how is it sluggish? EXACTLY what performance issues are you seeing? I assure you, the OS has nothing to do with apps "becoming sluggish over time".

@ Allan - Thank you for your interest. I need to create a new thread to address these issues but for reference: the two apps are both MS products, Excel and Outlook, and the issues are prevalent in both the MS365 offering and Office 2021, the latter i just installed after wiping 365 off my computer a day or two ago.

I am not too sure how much i can refine "sluggish" at this point other than to state that both apps used to be crisp when i would click on anything; now (and i need to better define just when they start to stall) there are significant (sometimes several to perhaps 15 seconds or more) delays in response to a selection.

I also note that there sometimes are interactions between the two, in that while Excel might be stalling and i am awaiting it to respond, Outlook will not respond until Excel does. As best as i can guess i'd think some dang shared dll, but again, i only know enough to be dangerous to myself.

Look at your Task Manager's Processes and Performance. See if you can detect an errant process or one that's taking up too much memory or resources.
