If the motherboard has software TPM check the version. If it is TPM 1.2 it doesn't satisfy the official requirements for Windows 11 and you have to bypass compatibility check to install. If it has a socket to connect a hardware TPM 2.0 module, you can either add it and be compliant or just bypass compatibility check. I would choose to bypass compatibility check and invest my money on other hardware.

Not always. Sometimes there is a firmware upgrade that will bring you to 2.0. A lot of Dells from a few years ago have this, for example.

Processors have included TPM 2.0 compatibility for many years.

Intel: Processors starting with the 8th generation of the Intel® Core™ Processor family (launched late 2017) have Intel® PTT (Platform Trust Technology), which is an integrated TPM compliant with the 2.0 specification.

AMD: Processors starting with the Ryzen 2000-series processors (launched April 2018) have AMD fTPM (firmware TPM) technology built-in, which also meets the TPM 2.0 specifications.

Turns out I was wrong about the Intel B365 chipset. It does have Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT) after all.

You might want to update the Intel Management Engine (ME) firmware and the BIOS. On the page linked below, the ME firmware update (which also includes the ME driver update so it will update the driver before it will update the firmware) can be found under Drivers > Chipset (and the latest BIOS update is the 1st one that appears under BIOS).

Well, I received my processor fan and installed it today. While waiting for it to arrive I tried to read as many posts as possible about upgrading until my head was about to explode.
Realizing that instead of jumping headlong into the upgrade there were things I should have done in preparation. So, I've held off on the hold my beer statement. Especially not knowing if the new to me MB even works

My old motherboard has been reinstalled just to get my passwords, move anything from C: drive that I wanted to save etc., and will download any necessary files.

I have never made or used an ISO "file", but I'm thinking a fresh install would be best as I cannot remember if ever other than the oh so many in place upgrades all along the way. This old Dinasaur system has more than a few quirks not to mention the system lags.

I'll disconnect everything but my C: drive make a new Macrium start up USB and then a system image.
To verify I am using MBR I looked at disk part. I do not see any asterisk under the GPT section.
I need to find and download the MBR to GPT file. I'm not exactly sure at what point I should run that.

I am guessing that on first boot attempt I should enter UEFI to be sure the TPM option is enabled.

If I manage to boot in Windows 11 I'll get all the updates and if everything is stable go to Gigabyte and get their updates.

Have I missed anything?

If you have an MBR installation (Legacy BIOS) and want to convert to GPT (UEFI mode), there must be a relevant Tutorial. After converting the disk from MBR to GPT it won't boot directly. You need to use the Windows Setup USB and select Repair.

snapakons thanks for the response. I did find the MBR2GPT file in Windows/system 32 and just to see what it looked like I tried double clicking on the file but nothing happens?

Also if I can get this file to open am I correct I should wait until I have the new motherboard installed?
Trying to read up on the MBR2GPT.exe sounds like it has to be started from the command prompt with a bucket of options?

It is a command prompt program. You use it in a Command Prompt with the appropriate parameters, see respective Tutorial.

I'd do the MBR to GPT conversion using the Windows 11 installation.

Boot from the install medium.

Choose "install now"

Shift + F10 to open Command prompt.

diskpart

list disk (shows the disks that are present)

select disk (number)

clean

convert gpt

(You could define a partition, but the Windows 11 installer can do that.)

Exit

Proceed with the installation.

I hope I have all that right; it's not something I've done lately.

The above wipes all data. It's also possible to convert from MBR to GPT without losing data.

You need to convert the drive to GPT.

It can be done from a command line at the start of the 11 install. (Post 32.)

You don't need to convert to GPT. The installation wizard will do it for you.

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) to install as UEFI-GPT .
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.

I've never had to do it, but here's a claim to the contrary:

If you are trying to install Windows 11 on a MBR configured drive, then you will need to convert it to GPT to complete the installation

The claim is that if the drive is already configured as MBR, the installer can't automatically convert it to GPT. Deleting the partitions on the drive won't change that.

Perhaps someone who is done 100X as many Windows 11 installations as I have can confirm or deny it.

As I wrote, the type of installation (Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT) depends on how you boot the Windows installation drive.

If you boot as Legacy it will only install as Legacy-MBR. If your drive is GPT it will say you can't install on it unless you delete all partitions till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed. The drive will then be converted to MBR and the installation will proceed.

If you boot as UEFI it will only install as UEFI-GPT. If your drive is MBR it will say you can't install on it unless you delete all partitions till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed. The drive will then be converted to GPT and the installation will proceed.

If you delete all partitions the installer will automatically convert from MBR to GPT or vice versa as needed. To create an UEFI boot installation the USB must be GPT and UEFI mode bootable. Similarly, to create a Legacy BIOS (unsupported) installation the USB must be MBR and Legacy mode bootable and of course bypass compatibility check.
