OS
win10 64 bit 20h2 ver. now it is 21h1
some time ago i got a notice about win11. i posted that on the win10 forum and at that time i was told it was a hoax. well now it seems to be real. anyway i downloaded the compatibility app and it looks like my tpm is 1.2 and my processor is AMD A4-3310MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.10 GHz and my secure boot is legacy but i think i can change that on all my probooks to the uefi and i'm hoping i might be able to get a new cpu for them but i can't find a way to upgrade the tpm.

“Legacy” BIOS (also known as “CSM” Mode) to UEFI/BIOS (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)

i had to change hard drives some time back and i changed the boot from uefi to legacy so windows would let me register the os. so now i guess i can change it back but if i can't do that then in a few years i may be screwed and have to spring for newer pcs. kind of like chromebook did when they just stopped supporting the older perfectly good chrome book because they were not selling many newer books. so now it looks like widows is doing the same thing to make us junk out perfectly good running pcs.

anyway does anyone happen to know if windows may provide updates for the tpm driver for the older pcs or maybe the mfg. of them? according the the pc health app all the rest of my pcs are good but for the tpm and the cpu and i'm hoping hp will have a compatible cpu for my probooks that win11 likes. i have 6470b 6465b and 6460b probooks. thanks bp

The upgrade from TPM 1.2 to 2.0 is a hardware upgrade, not a driver upgrade.

ok seem one website disagrees but i figure you guys know more about it because your the win11 people. thanks for the help i guess i will drag out win10 and see if windows gets so much flack that they either find a go around, or i will covert over to linux. for what i do online i'm not getting a new pc for hundreds of $ just to bank and email. so i have a linux pc i will break it back out and learn how to use that i guess. but lets how it goes. thanks

i have 6470b 6465b and 6460b probooks.
According to HP's specs for the Probook 6470b it has a 3rd gen Intel processor. The minimum suppoted Intel processor for Windows 11 is 8th gen or newer (a very few 7th gen were recently added to the list). So it won't be offered Windows 11 through Windows update. The other two are older models, so won't be supported either.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

The current Microsoft position is that unqualified PCs won't be offered 11 through Windows Update.

You ought to be able to install 11 manually, by downloading the ISO. You will be able to get the ISO using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, or sooner from uupdum.net. (The install might require some hacking, which I have not done so far.)

Microsoft has said that they may not update such installations, and that may include not doing security updates. Time will tell.

thanks for all the help. because i have what 5 years before they say they will stop the support i may find another pc. i'm not wanting to just go and get a new pc every time some os company decides to change the systems for the pc builders. but in the next five years or so there just may be a work around. i see some talk of a driver for the tpm and maybe i can change the cpu out. and i think i can sitch the bois from legacy to uefi to get the secure boot to work. other wise i will start learning some linux system that best resembles win10. mayby by then some linux developers will have set up a lookalike linux os to be close to win10. thanks

Microsoft upgraded my laptop to Windows 11 even though the hardware does not qualify for Windows 11. I decided that rather than wait to have Windows 11 kick my laptop to the curb, I decided to kick Windows 11 to the curb and did a clean install of Windows 10 PRO. The laptop was in need of a clean install and works much better now.

Glad it worked out for you! And I'm sure there will soon be a whole bunch of threads soon about how Microsoft forced the upgrade to Windows 11 upon unsuspecting users just like there were many, many threads about how Microsoft forced the upgrade to Windows 10 upon unsuspecting users.

Hmm, I have five machines of which the only one my main laptop is compatible with 11 and I will not upgrade that machine until the 11 version is fairly well sorted out after what went on with the Windows 10 version when it was released.
As for my main desktop which I built well I shall wait until I can afford a new prebuilt machine which has 11 installed on it because to rebuild my old Ivy Bridge although it has a beautiful case and very good quality components would cost too much to buy what is needed ie motherboard, CPU RAM, GPU (and they are eye wateringly expensive now) and plus I am too old to be doing all that changeover.

I'm running Windows 11 on my "unsupported (i7-7600U) laptop I use all the time to learn the OS. Prepared to back to10 if necessary, though.

My desktop meets all the 11 requirements but I'm going to wait a bit longer before installing it - going clean install.

Still think it's a bit more responsive than 10 :)

Although PC may not meet hardware spec, you can of course install Windows 11 in a virtual machine like HyperV which emulates a TPM 2 module.

Problem is you have to use Windows 10 still which eventually stops getting supported and W11 vm may be quite slow.

Our resident Linux expert @Jimbo runs W11 in a Linux VM which is a possible solution for older devices. Maybe he could write us a guide or even a tutorial if we ask him nicely?
