Uploading P20 Photos to Windows Problem

I never had this problem before. I used Windows 11. I used to just plug my P20 (android phone) into my computer via USB, then I could easily upload whatever photos I had taken since the last upload.

Now, I get a message in Windows' Photo app (for my desktop): "Getting your device ready. We are loading your items form HUAWEI P20. This may take a few minutes."

I have to wait until every single photo and video on my phone is accounted for.

When everything is supposedly ready to be uploaded, I get the following: 9187 photos, 328 videos. With the choice: Select new (8822), or Select all (9515).

I have to one-by-one pick the photos I want to upload, instead of being able to just pick a whole month or whatever is new since the last upload.

For some reason my Photos app thinks there's about 9000 new photos, yet there's probably only about 200 since it last worked properly.

I've been doing everything to check the Windows Photo app, but everything seems OK. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled it. It could be a problem with the phone, not my computer, but I can't notice anything different than before.

I've even given up and decided to just "Select new", to upload the 9000 or so photos, but it only goes so far, then an error occurs, not uploading everything.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

The easiest way IMO is to just avoid using HiSuite and the Photo app altogether. After hooking the phone up to the PC via the USB datacable, on the phone you should be able to choose File transfers. Next, use File Explorer on the PC to navigate to:
This PC > HUAWEI P20 > Internal storage > DCIM > Camera

It took about a minute for File Explorer to discover all 2,480 items that I have on my P30 Pro in there.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that's what I ended up doing, but it's pretty inconvenient compared to how it used to work - so smoothly, just giving me the option of uploading what hasn't been uploaded since the previous upload.

If you have the time and courage for it, you could always decide to give MTPMount a shot.
Next, you should be able to use FastCopy (or use ROBOCOPY if that's what you prefer, but I don't...) to copy the newer files.

Thanks. I'll take a look at that. An issue with the direct copying from phone to computer is it still takes a few minutes for File Explorer to figure out what is on my phone, I've got so many photos. Although, at the moment, it's still preferable to using Photos, where I have to now individually click on each photo.

HDMI hit the nail on the head. That's exactly how I move/copy files to/from my phone - connect via USB and treat the phone as a drive.
