It sat at 63.4 for more than an hour. I finally had to close it.

Our teen just decided to use a wireless mouse - I wonder if that would work? It still needs a connector in a usb slot for the mouse to wirelessly connect. Hope I'm not asking the obvious here but have you tried a different mouse with the computer?

I now have two multi usb port on my pc. Items plugged in to one port will not work on the next, had this problem for years on different multi usb ports

The major issue is that dism has failed,which is a vital component of Windows.
As previously suggested,try a Repair install if possible.

Your USB drive might have been rendered raw. In such case, right-click on Start -> Disk Management -> right-click on the USB drive (based on size or device name) -> format it. Be careful that you do not format your primary drive. If that fails, you may need to wipe the drive, before formatting.
