Video / Audio Streaming Problems

Hi, all. I have recently upgraded to Windows 11 and found an annoying problem with streaming video. I have tested on Youtube, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ so far. The video and audio are initially fine, but anything lasting more than about 5 or 10 minutes eventually starts to stutter or freeze, or sometimes the video continues but the audio stops.

I don't think this is a hardware or driver problem, because I played long local video files on Windows Media Player with no problem. I don't think it is an internet connection problem, because I've played long streaming videos on other devices on the same network (including a computer that still has Windows 10) with no problem. I've tried different browsers and have the same problem streaming (Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Brave -- I understand Edge, Chrome and Brave all share the Chromium code but I thought Firefox was different, but it has the same problem).

I did try going into settings and changing the memory allocation for the browsers to "High", and this didn't make a noticeable difference. I have 16GB of RAM, a i7-1195G7, and a network with 300 Mbps download speed. Upload speed is only about 1 Mbps, but I don't think that can be the problem because the other devices aren't affected.

Has anyone else had this problem or discovered any solutions?

I've had no problems streaming from the sites you mention plus a few more. You should fill out your computer specs so when more knowledgeable people chime in they'll know exactly what you're dealing with.

In case anyone is interested, the problem was apparently the old monitor I was attaching to the laptop via the HDMI port. When I replaced this with a new monitor, the problem went away. It's rather bizarre to me that this was the problem, since the streaming issue happened whether I was actually watching the video on the attached monitor or the laptop's built-in screen.

All that pointed to a problem specific to that computer. Good that you figured it out.
