I used to have VideoRedo 6 but it no longer works.

I'm looking for an easy to use, not over-complex way to multi-trim .mp4 files

Just simple stuff, no AI features or fancy editing things

Tried that yesterday, the system ID from the software is invalid when I try it. I installed it on this PC in July last year after a clean install, it worked then.
Same hardware, it won't work now
I have an actual key but that won't work either

Did this problem start at a particular Version number / Build number?

My routine VideoRedo computer is still on Windows 10 but I'll be updating it to Windows 11 later this year.

No idea, I'm on the current update to Windows 11. I've not used VRD for some time, I know when i did a clean install on 23/7 last year the key worked. I don't think I've used it since

Portable versions of Avidemux, OpenShot and Shotcut are all available from the PortableApps Site, so there is no need for a complete /traditional installation if you want to carry out some initial testing.

You can convert from many formats to others with Handbrake, but there is no way to see actual frames to trim. You need to find the start and end frames from another video editor and copy them in Handbrake. Also Avidemux is very good. Haven't used it to trim, but it can open VOB files from unlocked DVD (and automatically append the rest) and convert to any other format. It can also open M2TS files from AVCHD or unlocked Blu Ray. Open Shot looks good, haven't used it. With the proper input plugins (aka input filters) and codecs you can also open MP4 files in VirtualDub2, edit them with many interesting video filters and save as AVI with AVC or HEVC or other codec. Compliant AVI files with AVC video can be used in MultiAVCHD to create an AVCHD disc without re-encoding. Audio can be Dolby Digital (aka AC3). For simple trimming without resizing or other effects (splitting or merging), I use MP4BOX for MP4 files and MKVToolnix for MKV files. Both don't have an editor to find specific frames, you must find them using another video editor, not very convenient. They also cut to the nearest key frame, so they don't re-encode, but they don't do accurate frame editing as well.

Also good old Microsoft Windows Movie Maker is good but only saves in WMV, you must then use Handbrake or other tool to convert to other format. It is available with Windows Live Essentials 2012. There is a modern app in Microsoft Store but is not the same and is not from Microsoft.

    Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no WDDM 2.0 graphics drivers, no SSE4.2, cannot get more unsupported ;) This is only my test laptop. I had installed Windows 11 here before upgrading my main PC. For my main PC I use everyday see my 2nd system specs.
