VB.net is still included with Microsoft Visual Studio, but most developers use C# in Visual Studio these days (compare). I wouldn't bother with the old VB6 unless you have old VB6 source code that you want to compile. If you actually mean VBScript, that's still included with Windows 11, but is planned to become a not-preinstalled feature on demand in 2027. That's not much of a concern unless you want to share your work. In which case, JScript or PowerShell are better built-in scripting options.

Your screenshot looks like a really old version of Visual Basic.

The following shows a Visual Basic project using Visual Basic 6.0 Pro running in Windows 7 Pro. Even then it said there might be compatibility problems with Windows 7. AFAIK, Visual Basic 6.0 does not work in Windows 10 or 11.

I used VB6 back on Win 10 and I am using it now on Win 11.

Most VB6 apps will run on Windows 10 and 11. It's the IDE installation that is tricky to install. Some features are no longer supported and therefore have to be excluded during the installation of the IDE. Follow the instructions from a previous post regarding installing VB6.

When I was a student (around age 13), our computer teacher taught us VB6. I really miss those days… He started with QuickBasic to teach us the fundamentals of coding.

Modern VS itself uses Winforms, WPF, XAML islands, and all that together absolutely inconsistently with often different scrollbar style in heighbouring windows and different selection color, and call all of this "Fluent design", which is in fact a set of themes for different toolkits, distantly resembling Linux's Oxygen, but differing from each other. And since they make each toolkit to use own theme, they cannot quickly change them all if they decided to modify it. A WPF app in "Fluent" style is not looking like an UWP app, etc.

I bought both VB 6.0 and VC++ 6.0. I forgot that I have VB 6.0 installed on my Windows 11 laptop.

Do you mean QBaisc or QuickBasic? QBaisc came with Windows but QuickBasic was a commercial product. I bought QuickBasic 4.5 back in 1995 for about $80. QuickBasic ran the same code as Qbasic but you could make an .exe executable of the program.

QuickBasic 4.5 is not compatible with Windows 10/11 but you can download a free program called QB64. QB64 is a modern extended BASIC programming language that retains QBasic/QuickBASIC 4.5 compatibility and compiles native binaries for Windows, Linux, and macOS.

Even though you can't install QuickBasic 4.5 in Windows 11 you can run it in a virual machine in Windows 11. The following is QuickBasic 4.5 running in DOSBox.

I can’t remember. I think it was QBasic. We didn’t have python those days, so learning basic codes required an easy language like qbasic.

I also have Visual C++ 6.0 installed. Did you also install the optional MSDN Library? This library works with both Visual C++ 6.0 and Visual Basic 6.0.

BTW, I noticed a price tag inside the Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0 CD cases. It seems I paid $69.99 for each one. I bought them at my college bookstore so assume that the retail price was higher than that.
