W 10 going to be Win 11

As i sent previously this laptop has 8 gig of ram and adding more at this point is a waste.

The difference in performance is not great if you have 2GB RAM or lower because the computer slows down due to lack of RAM. However even a little performance boost is welcome.

He has 8GB RAM. See post #15.

So the SSD must either be an old model with little performance or must have lost performance over time. I would do a clean installation of Windows and compare performance. Make sure you install all drivers, especially the graphics drivers to reach top performance. Having a generic graphics driver and upgrading to the latest official driver can also make a difference. Some times Windows Update doesn't find a suitable driver and installs Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. This is equivalent to Standard VGA in older Windows versions and of course performance sucks due to lack of hardware acceleration.

Yep; could be older as it is my first SSD; it is an 840EVO 500 GB; can't recall when I picked it up; probably while travelling in our RV in Arizona or California some years back. I will stick it back into the laptop in a couple of days and have another look at what it is doing. As far as I know the System is up to date and all the drivers were hunted down. This is an old DELL INSPIRION 17: 3721..
It apparently won't take win 11 ; I know that there are some tricks I try to do the update but I have been quite satisfied with Win 1o; I have win 11 in my Desktop.

If you bypass compatibility check and install Windows 11 it will have the same performance as Windows 10 64-bit with the same drivers and settings. Also it will be as secure as Windows 10 with the same configuration, don't believe the nonsense that installing Windows 11 on unsupported computers makes them less secure.

Of course it makes it less secure - TPMs and secure boot add security.

You can configure Windows 10 to use TPM and Secure Boot, if available. If your system doesn't have these, then running Windows 10 is not by magic more secure than running Windows 11 without them. Think about it. Like Windows 98 was fully compatible with Windows 95 with a new skin and more features, similarly Windows 11 is Windows 10 64-bit with a new skin and more features. The full version number of my Windows 11 is 10.0.22621.1778 which is translated to Windows 10 version 22621 (aka Windows 11 22H2), build 1778.

PS: NT 5.0 was Windows 2000, NT 5.2 Windows XP, NT 6.0 Vista, NT 6.1 Windows 7, NT 6.2 Windows 8, NT 6.3 Windows 8.1, NT 6.4 Windows 10 which later was changed to 10.0 So Windows 11 has the same version with Windows 10 because it is an enhanced version of Windows 10, not a different version. They would name it Windows 10X but chose Windows 11 instead.

OK: back at it again; decided to put the SSD back in for some testing etc; This is because some interest was shown and help given.
Re-installed Samsung Magician and ran some tests again. One before and one after performance enhancement (Benchmarks.)
Also added one from my desktop as a comparison.desktop primary drive.pngbenchmark.pngafter performance opt.pngdevices.png
These drives are on my Desktop; drive G is there only as I am doing a monthly backup image file.
