the registry "hack" only removes thew system requirements message not the entire watermark

The "deterrent" will be whether one can live with the watermark as well as any issues that may arise.

I also doubt Microsoft isn't aware some enterprising souls will find a way around anything they throw out. That's the nature of the game and they know that. But they also understand that pool is small compared to the much larger pool of people who won't risk it.

You are right @Dru2 it's like AV v Hackers it's an ongoing battle each trying to out smart the other. And as you said the pool is small. The link to the tweak I posted to remove it, I wonder how many people will find it or try it?

I have one system on Windows 11 and another, which is currently taken down, on Windows 10. I did hook it up recently and update Windows. I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. I can't see it just sitting here collecting dust. Maybe my wife will start to use it again.

I have an old unsupported machine, that is just the i-7 processor that fails I was thinking of making an image and trying 11 and the no watermark tweak. just to test that and to see if it runs any faster that it did at the start of Win11 ( but it will be going back to 10 afterwards

Currently none of my machines are running any version of Windows 10. All Windows 11 machines here. I'll probably convert my backup PC back to Windows 10 (if the need arises).

I have my desktop on 11. The other 5 Windows machines are all unsupported and on 10. That's where they're staying.

I am all for the watermark. There are unscrupulous sellers and repair techs installing 11 on unsupported hardware to get the sale $$ to unknowing users. Same thing with the Activation watermark.

If you personally did this on your unsupported machine then you should be able to remove the watermark.
I see it as a way to warn unsuspecting users the seller they purchased it from or the shop that worked on it has honesty issues.

People that do this themselves on their own machines are fine as they should know how to deal with the possible future consequences.

I only currently have Windows 11 on one PC, and that one is supported.

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro from 2018 which Windows Update claims cannot be upgraded.
Not sure if that is because I have a local account, or some other reason.
There's always a way around restrictions and I'm sure you can find some tool that scrubs off the watermark.

If on a VM one can run W11 on almost any hardware you like provided the paravirtualised virtual hardware is compliant. I doubt whether Ms has the time or resources available to attempt to block Virtual machines from running.

Surely the simplest way for Ms if they really want to do this is simply to get the activation servers to fail to activate Windows on a non compliant machine -- after all their activation servers obviously have hardware detection in them.

So when trying to activate Windows a simple message would come back (or activation error code) -- Activation failed -- non compliant hardware.

Probably much too simple a solution though. !!!

This is an old post and is out of date. You only get a watermark now for Insider versions.

The release version does not display a watermark anymore even if unactivated.

It is irrelevant if windows 11 on an unsupported pc.

Re. watermarks on insider versions, people get ridiculous about them - they have nothing to do with activation and people should not use them as main OS anyway.
