Watermark for unsupported machines


All the usual websites are posting about it now, I have seen 3 so far all saying a slightly different story

The watermarks don't bother me. I see it this way. I use my computer to run programs and not to stare at the desktop.

If MS runs into too many problems with Windows 12 it might get shelved before it is ready for any kind of release. One way or another MS is going to use the extra security of the Pluton chip.

Wallpapers are an important part of UI and a watermark like the one above hampers the way the homescreen looks. The Desktop is viewed several times while working, and this isn't called 'staring'. If you like changing your wallpapers, then that would be inconsistent with what you have stated above.

That mark can easily be removed from the image. Tools like Gimp are free and will do that job easily

Too each their own. I'm running the Insider Dev builds on a dual monitor setup and I hardly notice the water marks. For my background I use a slide show of family photos.

Open Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following location
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\UnsupportedHardwareNotificationCache
Change the value of SV2 to ‘0’.
Reboot.
Bye bye Watermark

I just checked it out on my dev build with a watermark and the value is zero. So I don't know if that's going to help

Wut? Bro, they don't physically alter your wallpapers (they'd get massively sued for that too). They just overlay some drawn text.

I know that and when I went to the location in the registry the value was zero. I simply wonder how that would work if the value might be zero already.. here's whats in my registry and I have a water mark

Hard to say. MS usually sticks many redundancies in the Registry for things people believed they could disable (most notoriously the whole update installer framework). They probably read the net too, and plugged this hole already. :) And I expect them to keep doing that.

You can't remove it by editing the wallpaper. It's not part of the image. They have found a way to remove it but it involves a registry hack.
