Weird problem with some USB drives

When connecting some USB drives to the PC, a second drive appears in File Explorer besides the supposed one and it's greyed out. When clicking it, it tells me to connect the device. I have this issue Windows 7 (at least).

Try uninstalling all the old unused usb devices in device manager.
Disconnect all usb drives.
Open device manager>view>show hidden devices>storage volumes
For each of the grayed out devices right click on each one and select uninstall

I have found assigning the usb drives I use frequently a persistant drive letter helps.

Already did. I have this problem right after doing a clean install. I think it's normal with some USB devices.

Device Cleanup Tool Windows Tools
Run as Admin, anything greyed out will show, select them all and remove.

Or you could use Ghost Buster

I don't know if it's normal or not, I'm just guessing.

I said since Windows 7 (at least), so I still have it in Windows 11.

I'll post it the next time I have it. No, I don't have a single greyed out USB device in Device Manager.

I connected a microSD card inserted in an USB adapter and it shows two drives. When clicking one, it tells me to insert a disk in it.

One more thing, is there two slots in that card reader/adapter?
Sometimes a card reader will show a drive letter for both or all slots when in use, even if the other slot/s is empty. Hence it asking you to insert a card.
