What are the actual real benefits that you feel and appreciate with Windows 11?

Thanks to have shared your opinion and that link, Ed
I agree with you that it looks less messy now, computer-user

Yes, Ed, To share our experiences and ideas, it seems to me.
I have to say that after two days with win 11, I feel less confuse about it. I think that one has to try by oneself in order to feel what happens. It s just a question of time.

Edwin : May be in order to imitate Apple? I don't know. Anyway, once you fill the taskbar with icons-shortcuts, there's no difference anymore.

The actual real benefit? My old W10 laptop disintegrated in spite of duct tape, and my new W11 laptop is holding up well without duct tape (y)

I like that it "feels" somehow more slick and up to date. Although I prefer the look and function of Windows 10. Windows 11 sometimes reminds me of Linux but one that is easier to use and more reliable - which kind of annoys me because I like Linux and Windows to look different.

I don't like the start menu. It's usable but I don't like it. I mainly use 10 because I don't want to use addons for the start menu. And the taskbar needs to be more functional.

Windows 11 has various new features that are quite slick - which are of no interest to me.

I think it's less adaptable and I don't like that - there are things you can't move or change without reading tutorials on here for registry tweaks etc.

So the real benefits? Probably that it is the most up to date Windows software - but I don't think it's finished.

Only thing that stands out that is now natively supported is the different windows snapping options baked into the windows corner control and top of the screen.

Yes and then I think it's like being back on XP! To have easy access to programs you need to pin them to the taskbar and/or destop because it's easier than using the menu. I don't like the folder dimensions on 11 either.

"pathetic, puerile, useless emojis."
:): ) :)

if I may, I want to give a piece of advise. I've recently done something extremely useful.
I was, for years, waiting to do it, some day, later, in the future. Because it looks complicated. etc, like many people. I'm using now, since about 2 months, a password manager. I chose Bitwarden. I wish I did it much earlier! Bitwarden is an amazing changing Internet life tool.
I'm not working for them. If you look around, like I did, what people say about it you will understand what I'm talking about. It's super.
I feel that "Keepass" is a better password manager and it is free also. I've been using it for several years now and it continues to be actively updated periodically. You can use it to create unique complex passwords according to rules that you have complete control over.
I have no financial, professional, or casual relationship with the makers of Keepass. I just really like it.

My 10 year old Win 7 computer was paging itself to death trying to run Chrome. And it took 10 minutes to boot. So yeah, 11 is more about getting past that than for itself. That said...

After some tuning with @Brink 's tutorials, I like the current version of File Explorer better. Tabs, finally. No love for the start menu, though. And I have a couple of programs that needed upgrading and had stopped supporting Win7. If that's a lukewarm review, so be it.

I have to look at that tabs in the file explorer.

Keypass better than bitwarden? Not everyone thinks so, it seems. There are pros and cons. but it is certain that they both seem to be good reliable tools.
I haven't tested Keypass yet. maybe I will.
If I have any advice to give, I would say once again: Test by yourself, see by yourself. Test for free a password manager. Why not? One of those two. It takes a few days to figure out how it works, that's for sure, but it's really worth it. You will never go back then. I'm sure of that. It's at least my personal experience.

A few days ago I started looking at two other things that I had put aside a long time ago.
1/ Files' synchronization on (free) cloud servers
2/ (Free) Encryption tools.
This is all very interesting.
I now have personal encrypted data, synced on two clouds.
BTW I recall that it 's not a backup. But it is very useful, especially when you want to access your data from different computers.
I encrypt files and those files are synchronized on two (free). clouds.

I have tested two encrypting tools : Veracrypt and Cryptomator.

I have now a strong, long and unique password for each site! which is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to do without a PM. IMPOSSIBLE.
Not impossible.
I do this using a spreadsheet, printed out, in a folder near my desk.
Maybe insane, but certainly possible.

If you want to steal my passwords you will need to break into my house and talk to Mr Smith and Mr Wesson first.

But I'm not a desktop/explorer OCD tweaker, either.
That's what I like most about Windows 11, it's the fact I can undo all the OCD tweaks. 🤣

Hello,
I decided to try to upgrade my Desktop PC to Win 11. It dates from the end of 2017, and I was surprised to see that there is a TPM chip ( type 1). For some reason, in 2017, I formatted the SSD disk in MBR.
I had to convert it to GPT, I activated EFI boot.and the TPM chip through the BIOS interface.
I had to do some "particular things" to succeed triggering the update, because of one remaining problem : Microsoft excluded my Intel processor from the list of compatible ones! (A powerful one from 2017, that costed me €200)
Searching a little and tinkering, you can go beyond. Is it advised to do so? May be not. What will happen later with future Windows updates? Will that work? I don't know.
I had a SSD, I cloned my Window 10 SSD disk prior of doing the upgrade.
The fact is that on my my little 14" laptop it's not the same. With the desktop PC I really can get an impression of what is Win 11, thanks to a much larger monitor.
First impressions:
The graphic effects made me dizzy. I deactivate most of them.
I deactivate the News widget too.
The system is a little bit slower when starting, but nothing really serious.
The taskbar ended overcrowded and messy in my case, because I have two lines of icons. I will have to tidy up.
Otherwise : Honestly Win 11 seems to be fast and nice to me.
That's why I did the upgrade, of course. I have a good impression :)

By the way, I was talking about issues with my Logitech Keyboard : No problem, simply almost emptied batteries.

There are workaround to bypass all the checks. One of the test machines I have 11 running on has no TPM, a Legacy bios, and an MBR install. All updates apart from the Feature Update to the next version of W11 will be installed as normal through Windows Update. For a feature update an in-place upgrade using the ISO and a workaround will do the job.

What are the actual real benefits that you feel and appreciate with Windows 11?

For all my supported devices it just works without any fuss or fiddling.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
