What is AdvertisingPopup folder? delete it?

Dear experts,

I have discovered the folder “AdvertisingPopup” in path C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\AdvertisingPopup, in both my Windows 10 and my Windows 11 laptops. I have looked in properties for this folder, and the “group or user name” includes system, my windows account for the notebook and the administrator account for the notebook. my Windows 10 laptop has never had any easeUs application.

II have not found the signature of any developer in the folders.

Is it a normal component of Windows?, can I safely delete it?

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

According to that message it would have to do with the application EaseUS Todo Backup.

The only 'problem' with the found result is that it is written by a commercial Spyware remover company, so better not to click any unknown links on that page...

If you would like to search for other results, search with "AdvertisingPopup", where the quotation marks are essential.

Difficult to say. It may be Easus, as above, but then it my be something else. It's a fairly obvious name that anyone may have chosen to use.

What's in the folder? Anything, or is it empty?
It's probably safe to delete, but may well come back again.

EasyUS put its own "AdvertisingPopup" folder in another path, it is an additional folder. That one Ijnow. I am asking about the folders "AdvertisingPopup" independent from Easyus, that I got in any case,in path C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\AdvertisingPopup
In one PC I never had any Easyus app and I have the folder "AdvertisingPopup"

That might be useful to know.

You always could rename the folder into something else, like "MaybedeletedAdvertisingPopup" and see if any app is having troubles, or possibly some app might make that folder again. That's what I mostly do with unknown folders that bother me.

When you put a shortcut to "C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\" on your desktop, you could easily in a regular way look if the folder is made again when you start some app (and especially if you start EasyUS).

In one notebook I never had any easyus sofyware and I still got the folder in the indicated path

I have Easeus software and i don't have AdvertsingPopup listed.
Make an image of your computer and save it to a USB HDD.
then delete the folder and reboot, if all is good, you be good to go, if not, you can restore your image

Rename the folder you listed above... just the AdvertisingPopup folder and see if it affects anything.

C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\AdvertisingPopup


Rename it to... OldAdvertisingPopup then reboot the computer.
If it breaks something, you can just rename it back to AdvertisingPopup


If it doesn't break anything, then you know you can delete it.

All I could find is a possible ad entry due to using free software, is your EasyUS the free version?

What else are you running that would cause that to be created? If you’re bypassing any software with patches, then maybe I could understand it, otherwise I don’t see how this is possible especially on multiple machines.

If not that, I can’t see how this happens. Perhaps other free software outside of EasyUS

Do you have a list of software that you use the free versions of?
You can delete the folders but they may get recreated by whatever is creating them.

As both @Ghot in #10 and me in #7 mentioned, you could try to rename the folder and see if it's causing an error or if that folder is put back on your system. You did not answer to my question if that folder is empty or not either.

If you don't want to perform any proposed testing method, how would it be possible to advise you.
As you may have noted, (until now) no one else has this AdvertsingPopup folder in his/her system...

I have just delete it abd keep it in the bin, just in case
