I am NOT tryng to defend Microsoft or other megacorps. In my careers, I hated it when my startup or small company got acquired. My comment was about the "greater common interest" of users, if that is even a thing any longer.

Sadly that is no longer a thing for Google, Apple, Microsoft or Meta.

I'm trying to say this without bias..
But only Android opensource OS's like (LineageOS/GrapheneOS/iodé)..... and the majority of Linux distributions except(Redhat-IBM / Ubuntu-Canonical / Amazon Linux-Amazon) only have the ("greater common interest" of users) nowadays.

If we turn back the clock 15-20 years.. Then all OS's was about the best interest for the users.
Nowadays, those four is all about making as much money they can on the users.

and even more dangerous that almost nobody sees, is that locking you in to cloud solutions is to hold your data as a time bomb....
Company's and normal persons got their accounts closed and they lost all their data..
A data breach can leak all your data onto the dark web...
The new cloud act makes GDPR and other countries privacy laws totally toothless, as USA government and agency's can demand getting everyone's data that is stored in USA based big-tech company's
Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta is demanded by law to hand over your data you have stored in the cloud including your bitlocker keys that is stored in your Microsoft account if they are served a court order. (some of them gives out data without it, as they sell data to databrokers or for machine learning)

and almost no one, either care or even know about it.

I have a feeling it will be easier for Microsoft to build a rocket and go to the moon and back then getting back the trust they have lost.
Going to the moon is easy if you have money... but you can never buy trust.

I miss windows as hell.. as there is so much good power-user software out there to Windows

Also Mars according to the Apple TV program For All Mankind. But not for NASA or the Russians.

I trust Microsoft a lot compared with Google, Meta/Facebook and other social media. I do still trust eBay, however.

So true, so true... AI is as dangerous as it is useful.

and this is why i am sooooo anti-AI inside operating systems... as an AI should not under any circumstances have write access to a live system... In a test environment(VM or home-lab) its really useful to have write access to the system, as you can test implementations and things.. then it isn't any real danger if prompt-injection or the AI hallucinate and start wiping files or configurations.. That can actually be really fun.

But AI as read only + notify and perhaps even block actions, is really useful on a live system, as you can detect bugs or intrusions, system errors or warnings etc. etc.

AI is fun.. I use it on almost daily bases where i both use it for troubleshooting, and also to learn AI and how to really abuse it.. (to learn how to defend and to see its strength and weaknesses)

Perhaps not back to the 70's.. But i would not object or complain to go back to the late 00' or early 10's.

I have actually never used eBay.. i buy all my things over the counter in real stores, so i can look and feel on things before i pay for it.

I'll just say this: If I don't see substantial changes for performance in general without "great ideas" like using more RAM for File Explorer precaching, in times like these where everything is expensive as hell... K2 is just another big lie to try recover users back from Linux, especially Steam OS...

You have this 3rd tri-mester to do something Microsoft, or you are gonna lose your user base forever lol
