What is nsw.foxtel.net.au and why is it reading data from my hard disk?

It was not during the installation that was the concern (at least the user had an option not to register).

It was when attempting to download the installation file from the Macrium website (navigating from the home page > Products/Downloads > etc) that an email was required to be given for the download link....
Well, Macrium have solved that problem, they have now removed all links to download Reflect Free from their website.

However, when Free was still available on their website its download page specifically said the email was optional, as it still does when downloading Reflect Trial. Leave it blank and just click Continue, that's what I always did. When you click Continue it goes straight to asking you where you'd like to save the download.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package.

Use the Host table option from that link. Add this line (using the actual IP address, of course) to your Host file:
127.0.0.1 cpe-(NAS IP address).nsw.foxtel.net.au

This will redirect IP intended for traffic for the Foxtel address to Localhost (ie. your own PC). This will not block access to your NAS. The fact that the full address you'd be blocking contains the IP address of the NAS is irrelevant.
Thanks Bree. I did this and now Foxtel is popping up with my ICUE cooler software as well as my Nvidia control panel and Nvidia web link. I have disconnected the NAS and they are still popping up. I am currently running a full virus scan. At least right now, large amounts of data are not being read from my PC, according to Resource Monitor.

I really don't know what to do at this point. I can't find anything on the internet about this. All I can find is Foxtel proudly telling me that they are an internet company. If I can't find a virus, it's looking like a complete re-install and a sledgehammer to my NAS.

Oh yes, I am also blocking Foxtel with my router. Seems to have zero effect...

The free Home version is no longer available (only a trial version is) from the Macrium website so the whole point is now moot.
Yes it is, using the link that @Bree provided. I downloaded it on 2/21 and I opened the link again just now.

correction-Maybe I need to clarify that Internet Download Manager went to the link Bree provided and downloaded Macrium Free. Folks need to understand the software will continue to work for a long time even after Macrium no longer supports the free version. One using it may get nags from Macrium to update to Macrium Home, but it will still work and there are ways to stop the nags. IMO buying Home is a way to support all the work the Macrium folks put into their software....unless they decide to raise their price exhorbitantly.

Well, a little update...

This foxtel thing is in my network somewhere. It connects to my printer, my NAS, and my Amazon Fire Stick. Resource monitor on two other PCs show it linking with the NAS and printer as well. And this is after a fresh install and redoing my router's firmware.

Maybe it's tinfoil hat time, but I really think that something fishy is going on here.

Just had this issue so thought id share with everyone, may or may not be significant. I have used this "speedtest" link many times in the past without DANGER issue as shown here. but was thinking if you may of used same or similar site and picked up virus. Foxtel is basically government owned and if anything the 5-14eyes involvement here and not a hacker.
