I have not ever experienced any issues with bitlocker regardless of custom built machine or oem. But I was saying it's certainly possible that a custom built machine with a certain motherboard manufacturer might not play nice with bitlocker.

I doubt there is anything wrong with your system. I am not sure why you had to put your entire recovery key in when nothing was changed on your system, but aside from scanning your system for malware and the like I wouldn't worry about it.
