What's the trick for connecting an iPhone to a Win11 PC?

I have tried literally everything I can find. Multiple cables, both USB-A and USB-C, front and rear panels on PC. I have reset Location & Privacy on the iPhone. I have downloaded and installed Apple Devices from the Microsoft Store. Checked Device Manager, checked drivers (nothing shows up). I have tried connecting my phone to 3 other machines in my office. On the Windows 10 machines, my phone asks if I want to trust the computer, and connects as usual. On the Windows 11 machines, nothing. And nothing comes up on the Apple Devices app on the PC. I even checked for Windows updates (nothing), and also updated to the latest iOS 18.7, which was just released yesterday. Rebooted phone, rebooted PC, still nothing.

Is there some trick to this? I have checked everything I can find on r/iPhone, Microsoft help, Apple help, here on this forum, and literally nothing I can find has worked. This is a brand new phone, and a Win11 system that I built less than 1 year ago. Any ideas? Is it just simply not possible to connect a current iPhone device to a Windows 11 machine?

As far as I know, you must download and install Apple iTunes for Windows to detect the iPhone or other Apple devices. Also see the device's screen, it asks for permission to trust the PC and enable file transfers. Only after you allow access the iPhone is detected properly and you can copy files. However it is not like an Android phone. You don't have access to all folders. You can only copy photos, music and videos. There are third-party utilities that allow you to get more, but still not everything.

as I said, nothing ever comes up on the iphone screen asking to trust the computer. And I thought iTunes was defunct and Apple Devices was the way now? But that does nothing on my machine.

3rd party would be a last resort. I've always been able to connect iPhones to PC's before, to copy photos over. Is it just impossible to do now, natively?

I tried it, absolute garbage. Bluetooth won't work at all between these devices. I really need a WIRED connection. Is it not possible at all?

My PC found the phone, said it connected, but then it wasn't connected. Both devices sat there for many minutes looking for each other, nothing. I removed it all from the phone and removed all BT connections, turned BT back off on the PC. What an absolute joke.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
I had always bypassed Phone Link. I just now connected my Pixel 9 Pro XL to my Windows 11 Pro for the first time. It took less than a minute to do. This is really cool. I can even make phone calls and text message right on my PC.

Does this AutoConnect when I open my PC?

When i had an iPhone, my experience with Apple was mixed.

For one, iTunes crashes. Maybe that is now solved. Happened when you want to reach your phone for transfer.

The only thing i was able to do, was to connect the iPhone to my PC as a hard drive. That enabled me at least to exchange files. I think Apple doesn't like Windows. Therefor the safest in my mind is to have an Apple computer.

Just my thought. I don't own a iPhone anymore but instead a Pixel 7. Works of course much better with Windows.

From reading this thread, this is still an issue.

Not impossible. I am using it with link to windows on the iPhone to transfer files wirelessly with no issues. What version of windows 11?

I connect my iphone 14 via apple devices app all the time to Windows 11. It works fine even on IOS 26 and previous IOS 18.6.2.

Have you tried WinXMediaTrans? Version 8.0 was given away free sometime ago.

I have been using it to transfer files between iPhone/ iPad and my pc without any problems. The transfer is pretty fast too.

You just need to use a cable to connect the two devices and run the software

Too many laptops with different system specifications.
You said you already tried many cables and USB ports. Are any cable of good quality? Cheap cables can only charge the phone but not transfer data. Also try both standard USB 2.0 ports (black plastic) and USB 3.0 or higher ports (blue or red or green plastic), if you have both. Use a utility such as Revo Uninstall to completely remove all traces of iTunes or Apple Devices and reinstall it.

Mike, this is the info I have.

Using Bluetooth (Windows Computer)

Pair Devices:
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap your computer when it appears in the list.

Enter PIN:
If prompted, enter the PIN displayed on your computer to complete the pairing process.

Use a Bluetooth Audio Receiver App:
Download and run the Bluetooth Audio Receiver app from the Microsoft Store on your Windows computer.

Connect and Play:
After pairing, the app allows your iPhone's audio to be played through your computer's speakers.


Allegedly, all you need to do is pair the phone with your PC under the Bluetooth menus, then download/run Bluetooth Audio Receiver.
I use PLEX so I can just use the media server and play anything in my music folder on the PC, so I have never tried that Microsoft Store app or know if it is still needed.

Option 1: Bluetooth (if your PC supports audio input)
- Enable Bluetooth on your PC:
  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices

- Pair your iPhone:
  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth on iPhone
  • Select your PC from the list
- Set PC as audio output:
  • Swipe down for Control Center
  • Tap the AirPlay icon
  • Choose your PC
Note: Many PCs don’t support Bluetooth audio input. If your PC doesn’t appear, skip to Option 2.

Option 2: Wired (Lightning to Aux cable)
- Connect hardware:
  • Use a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter
  • Plug a 3.5mm aux cable from iPhone to PC’s Line-In or Mic jack
- Enable audio passthrough on PC:
  • Open Control Panel > Sound
  • Go to Recording tab
  • Right-click Line-In > Properties
  • Under Listen tab, check "Listen to this device"
Option 3: AirPlay via Third-Party App
- Install AirPlay receiver on PC:
  • Recommended: AirServer or 5KPlayer
  • Launch app and enable AirPlay
- Stream from iPhone:
  • Swipe down for Control Center
  • Tap AirPlay icon
  • Select your PC
  • This method offers high-quality wireless playback, ideal for home setups.

Bluetooth you don’t have to leave your phone at the PC. (Or the house to buy an adapter)
You can connect and play music and sit at the table with your guests browsing the net and reading messages, thus ignoring them so as to offend.

My dinner parties are spectacular, apparently. I cannot confirm as I am generally busy browsing this forum.
