What's this in my videos files?

Just been posting on Ten Forums (after my back up drive died) - before I had reinstalled files from one computer to another - as it's a W10 laptop. Anyway it's sorted. Used an older backup and recovered remaining files from the dead drive.

Then proceeded to make 2 system images on separate external drives, and another file back up on another external drive. So all sorted.

Except - I have just found this in my videos library. Which wasn't there when I installed it on the computer from my back up. Now it is. And it's also on all my new backups and images! Anyone know what it is and how it got there?

It's an empty folder with the the very weird name of: Microsoft.ZuneVideo_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftZuneVideo

I believe it is associated with the latest version of Media Player. Funny that MS is resurrecting the name of the Zune device (competitor to the iPod), which was discontinued in 2012. Media Player replaced Groove Music. Considering that other players out there (including Windows Media Player) have similar names, I wonder why MS chose that name?

(later): I neglected to mention I'm on Win 11. I don't know whether the Groove Music replacement was also done on 10. Since we're in the 11 forum, I won't apologize.

I just searched C:\ drive for that. I don't have it.
BUT... I removed WMP a while ago.

It just appeared! As I had no files on the computer, there was nothing in the video library. I copied across my files from the backup and it just appeared. I just read somewhere else that Zune is related to the Groove music app. If I uninstall the Groove music app do you think it will disappear again? Why did they have to give it a file name that sounds like a virus?

I only have VLC Media Player and Foobar2000

It's appeared alphabetically - M for Microsoft, after the folder starting K and before the folder starting N.

I have nothing different on the computer. Been using it the same for months. I think Groove music was there as part of the original install but the folder only appeared in videos when I copied my video files onto the computer.

Google tells me Zune is part of Groove music, Microsoft's music app.

Well I've just deleted the folder anyway. See if it comes back.

It'll probably come back. :)

I have a feeling, if you edit video's with Photos/Video Editor. it'll stash the saved copy there.
So, yes, if you do so, it'll probably reappear.

Searched my C Drive and have this. The 3rd and 4th entries are the screenshot I posted on here. I'm guessing the first two are the folder I deleted.

Thanks. Yes I did edit some videos in the photos/video editor app recently. It says 9th Feb - which was the date of the backup that was corrupted on my external drive. I recovered the files on that drive but didn't install videos from that drive, but from an older back up on a different drive. I'm confused.

Hasn't come back - yet!
