Yes 10 has Dark mode , so nothing new about that. I can`t stand the light mode.

Once I installed it on my main system it became a keeper

Also don't plan on tweaking it to look or act like another OS. Fine just the way it is for me

I've found workarounds for most things I don't like; I have the old context menu back and the ribbon on my File Explorer. Glary Utilities let me weed out the unnecessary links in the context menu. It's a bit annoying to have to put shortcuts on my desktop just to open two or more Explorer windows at a time. The start menu is a bit naff but, as I hardly ever use it, it's not a dealbreaker. Either Microsoft didn't do enough testing with real-world users, or my needs/desires are a little odd. Either way I'll be sticking with 11, as the new wonder kid it's going to get the most development and, if we're luck, some new toys. However, if they continue down the road blazed by a fruit flavoured operating system and stop me being able to modify it to my taste, there is always a free alternative

Like on 10 large updates usually reset everything back to shitvill and you have to redo at least context menus and likely explorer changes now...

I have had a lot of trouble with getting W11 and hardware problems, but things have sorted themselves out with help from knowledgable forum members and I like 11. I have a second desktop which fully qualifies for the upgrade from W10 and as soon as Microsoft gets around to it I will go for it.

Actually yours is more typical. The correct question would be why is mine so small, both for its Windows 10 and Windows 11.

For all my machines I do make every effort to clean up the OS after each cumulative update. In particular, cleaning up the component store. My clean install on another machine, after cleaning up as much as possible, has about 12GB of System files.

That one machine I gave screenshots for has the smallest system files of any of my machines. It also happens to be the only machine I can still directly compare the size of its Windows 11 upgrade to its original Windows 10 install, as I have both available as a dual boot. That is why I chose it as my example comparison of W11 vs W10 system sizes. But for all my machines I have upgraded to 11, the size of the system files is always a little less than the Windows 10 it was upgraded from.

That's an INTERESTING question, if you're someone who has no alliance to Mac or PC but simply wants the best value. For me that means I can afford Macs but haven't really seen the value since Windows 10. I don't need the BESTEST PCs that can chew thru 8K raw video. Almost no one does. I also don't need a cinematographers dream smart phone either. It's such a scam.

The one thing I do need is for Windows to understand they exist with a world of better operating systems. Mac OS and iOS and Android are simply smoother operating systems. They all seem years of ahead of Windows. I don't love Chrome OS but Zorin is amazing (in concept, not stability.)

So two IMPORTANT things have happened since Windows 10 --

1. Apple's M1 chip
2. Windows 11

Before these events I could look straight in most Mac users eyes and say, "Trust a guy that used Apple products for 29 years and sold them for 3.5 years: you're being played. Most people don't need Macs or iPhones."

Now it's very different. It's different because, once again, MS released a patently incomplete operating system. The 2nd draft. Other companies would have release the 18th draft and it would have fixed everything the Feedback Hub is yelling about.

At the moment I'm not convinced MS is going to fix any of the major design flaws. Instead they're going to fixate on other ideas that -- mostly likely -- will be invasive ads that users summarily reject. And so if I see history repeating itself in the next year --

-- I'm going to eventually dump two of my four PCs for Macs. Because I cherish quiet PCs. And PC chips must improve. They don't have to match M1 or surpass, mind you. Again: most of us aren't movie makers, musicians, or graphic artists.

So the question for me is not if I'll keep 11. The question is if it's worth keeping a year from now. I try to be optimistic but MS actions speak louder than MS words.

Apple M1 chip?

It's on par with the better chips from Intel or AMD and it's far more costly. To me at least it makes no sense to put money into an Apple product. While Win11 is far from perfect it's much better than any Mac Os.. hands down.,
