I would say it's their client base. Which is probably Dell.

Dell asked me to send a photo of the damage, I did, and they immediately replaced exactly what I had. My damage was hilariously severe. I backed over it with my car. :eyeroll:

Used Dells can still have Warranty if the original owner sells them before it expires. Also refurbished models (aka leased, used, returned to manufacturer, serviced and resold) have at least 1 year Warranty.

When you buy a refurb from the Dell Outlet you get a warranty just like a new purchase and you can also add-on the Premium Warranty. I've sometimes bought new. My last purchase was new.

Guess I've been very lucky or very careful as I've never done an extended warranty on a PC. Same for my phones although I did put one phone through the washing machine many years ago which didn't go well, Lol.

Yeah, kind of an insurance. Important if your livelihood is relying on having a working machine at all times. Makes a lot of sense to me.

That's also why I always have two machines, configured identically, down to identical data synced in real-time. I can move back and forth between computers without missing a byte. :cool:

    Thinking about getting an eGpu for this system to take on the road with us.
All my dells minus my workstation 8940 have issues. My main laptop has motherboard failures for the ram slots. I could be doing something and it will just garble the screen, then I have to try to reboot several times to get it to work again. I am holding off until the RTX systems become available. Then I am probably going to the the ProArt 14.

Every other one of my dell laptops have boot issues with black screen. It's a common dell problem that affects a large about of dell systems from the few years when I bought my systems. I am done with them now. I will move on and try other brands. I only bought dell as they were readily available during the pandemic.

If the RAM is not faulty, I guess you checked with MemTest, it might be because of overheating. Bad design can lead to low heat dissipation, rising temperatures and making RAM or GPU freeze.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. Artificial Microsoft hardware requirements for Windows 11: Intel 8th generation CPU or AMD 2nd Generation Ryzen CPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB disk, UEFI boot, TMP 2.0, Secure Boot, WDDM 3.0 or higher graphics drivers.

Real minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 21H2, 22H2 & 23H2: Any 64-bit CPU except the first generation AMD-64 that lack certain instructions, 1GB RAM, 64GB hard disk (not necessarily SATA, even IDE works), no TPM, no Secure Boot, Legacy BIOS, WDDM 1.0 (Vista 64-bit) graphics drivers.

Real minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, 26H2 and hopefully some more versions: Any 64-bit CPU with SSE4.2 instructions, that is 1st generation Intel Core-i3 or higher and equivalent AMD CPUs, 2GB RAM (1GB is very slow), 64GB hard disk, no TPM, no Secure Boot, Legacy BIOS, WDDM 1.0 (Vista 64-bit) graphics drivers.

So if you have an old PC don't throw it away, install Windows 10/11 and donate it or keep using it. Regarding Windows 10 64-bit 22H2 vs Windows 11 23H2 for CPUs without SSE4.2, I would prefer Windows 11 23H2 to maximize compatibility with current and hopefully some future hardware and software. The newer the better. I have noticed that we usually argue about older systems being better, but at the same time we get used to certain aspects of the newer systems (features, settings, way of doing things) and we find it inconvenient that they are missing or implemented differently in the older system. Think about it.

Sometimes real absolute minimum Windows 11 25H2 requirements feels like they should be 32GB RAM and at least a 2TB PCIe gen 5 NVMe drive.

When really starting to work, it feels like not even that is enough. At least 500GB SSD as a system drive is starting to feel very tiny.

I have that amount on my phone, for crying out loud, and even there it is barely enough. Please note though that I am a heavy mobile user and do a lot of stuff on my phone, that most people don't do even on their computers.

No, it's the ram slot itself. The board gives the codes flashing the power indicator when it happens.

You and I might buy 32GB but remember the RAM prices that are out there. If they can get away with 16GB then that's what they'll go with.

Most people just surf the internet, text and answer email so yes, they wouldn't have that heavy duty requirement.
