Why I Won't Be In A Hurry To Install Windows 11

Despite getting a Windows 11 capable computer I am not going to instal it yet, possibly for years.

I don't like the start menu (if it is that) in the middle of the screen, changes to the right click menu , changes to file explorer and the icons and thats just the start. What IMPROVEMENTS does Windows 11 make that Windows 10 hasn't got ?

I have several machines, Windows 7 machines that I each use for a different purpose, as well as others running Windows 10.

I still like Windows 7 but obviously aware of its security limitations. I do not share USB sticks or even the same method of accessing the internet, or the same provider, so they never meet. I also don't use 7 for internet shopping or banking etc.

I liken the change from Windows 10 to 11 to that of first seeing a Windows 8 device and thinking Micro$oft had gone mad.

You can change Windows 11 start menu to left.

You can enable full context menu.

Fair enough, although I find coming onto a forum dedicated to W11 just to announce you won't be installing W11 a bit pointless really.

Times and technology move on. 11 can be made to look like 10 with ExplorerPatcher. If you don't want it stay on 10 and go to Tenforums as we discusses win 11

If you gotta get work done, stay on W10!
If you've got time and patience, by all means, give W11 a whirl!

I do both with Windows 11. No back breaking issues here. Dumped 10 off my man rig and haven't looked back :)

And it isn't tweaked or hacked to act or look like Windows 10. Just out of the box Windows 11

Windows 11 is great. I had to fiddle a bit to get the Taskbar on top and left-aligned and to get TrueLaunchBar working. It IS different but also really fast. I have no regrets. To adjust things, there is Start11, StartAllBack, Ultimate Windows Tweaker, and WinAero Tweaker.

In the end, most of your complaints are eelatively superficial and can be sorted. The key point is rhat W10 is static and no longer being developed. Whether you like it or not, W11 is the (current) future..I do not like all the W11 changes but once you get used to them, it is no big deal.

Right now, there are not many new features that are game changers, but one new feature in the Dev version is persistent sandbox i.e. you can now reboot a sandbox which means you can now test apps that needed a reboot to install.

Sure there are ways of doing similar things with vms to do same. My point is new features will materialise over time.

In the end, it is up to you. You have several years of W10 support.

Clean installed WIndows 11 on October 6th 2021, I felt it was time to move on my 1 supported system to the new OS so i can get familar with it, as my Moms older HP Desktop isn't probably gonna last forever, and most likely when she buys a newer system it will come with Windows 11, so i figured i better learn as much as i can on the new OS

Then again i've always been a Day 1 clean installer or upgrader soon as previous versions was released

OP has until Oct. 2025 to switch to Win11 as most Win10 versions (except certain LTSC editions) will be out of support by then

Yep 11 really doesn't have a start menu anymore it's now what win-8 had and win-10 started with and is really a mini desktop replacement list.

At least win-10 can be changed to just show all apps list without third partyware to do it for you for 5.us this is just lame or free crapshell lol

I joined the forum because I wanted to pass my comments on Windows 11. I do not want to instal third party applications to make it look more like Windows 10 . I would have liked Windows 11 to be a game changer but so far the only major changes have been in the GUI. I have a laptop capable of Windows 11 but at this stage I cannot see a reason for updating. There are people like yourselves who want to try new things whereas I for the most part am behind in technology and thats how I like it. I was one of the last people to purchase a new CRT television in 2008/9 and like older tech generally. I have not actually seen Windows 11 running apart from what I have seen on Youtube etc. The settings menu appears to have its contents in horizontal lines instead of in groups. I know which option I would prefer to use. I realise that Micro$oft over the next year or so may give Windows 11 an amazing feature that Windows 10 can't have. I'm glad i don't work for Micro$oft because I would find it hard to find any plus points to promote the operating system. It has been said that Windows Updates are quicker to download and instal which would be a minor plus point. As I have said despite my negative comments I had my first laptop in 10 years this Christmas for the sole reason of it being fully capable of running Windows 11, but it may be sometime before I am convinced to instal it.

A lot of things I didn't like at the start, but I soon got used to them and a few got changed, I would never go back to 10. Win 11 is very productive and worked faultless for me on 3 machines. I still think after all the initial problems people had it was released a bit early ( after all you wouldn't by a car without paint or wheels ) I also noticed a lot other Manufactures never had updated drivers or software ready, but all worked for me.

Generally there are a lot of people who get used to something, feel comfortable and resist change. It's understandable.
But change is a positive stimulation for your brain and most of the time as it happens with upgrades and newer software will finally start to make sense and your finish by being even more satisfied. Just don't let old habits prevent you from discovering new things :)
