Solved Why is Microsoft Translator app discontinued?

I did a clean install of Windows 11 on my workstation and my laptop when it was released. Win 11 Pro for Workstations on the WS and Win 11 Home on the laptop.

I installed the Microsoft Translator app on the WS directly and wanted to install it on the laptop yesterday but it is nowhere to be found in the MS Store. I first thought that this may be a Pro v.s Home issue but when i search in the MS Store on my WS today i cannot find MS Translator and a Google search gave me this: Buy Translator - Microsoft Store

Win 11 Version 22000.434 on both computers.

Does anyone know why MS Translator is discontinued for the public, or made aviable only if you have a 25-digit code? :)

Yes, MS Account on both computers.

Plenty of good free A.I translators available these days -- even GOOGLE Translate has greatly improved over the years into something quite passable, OK you won't get a 1st class Honours degree in linguistics using that app but it's certainly 90% OK for typical documents which you can easily fix manually. If you need specialized services e,g for medicine, complex engineering specs etc then you are better off in any case using professional (paid for) specialist services.

It is not free for android either as far as I know. There are plenty of other free apps to choose from

I did, but how long is soon with MS? I was suggesting other apps while the OP was waiting for it. Also It is not that straightforward using android apps in 11, not just download and use.

Apparently, Microsoft say if you have it you can still use it. So, does anyone have a copy of the msi (or setup files) that they can share? I am using Microsoft Office 2019 Pro (not office 365) and find the translation ability severely missing. It is supposed to supported translation features but, in Outlook at least, is a very poor experience compared to Outlook on Office 365 - so I really miss the translator app (which, of course, I did not keep a backup copy of when transitioning computer)...

Translator app was removed from the Store, but you can still download it.

1. Visit Microsoft Store - Generation Project (v1.2.3) [by @rgadguard & mkuba50]

2. Where it says "URL (link)", paste:

Code:

https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/translator/9WZDNCRFJ3PG

3. Click the ✓ button.

4. Open the link marked "Microsoft.BingTranslator_5.6.0.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle".

5. After your browser has saved the file, open it in Explorer.

I still have it. As I already had it in my store library I was able to reinstall it

Just to report, I had some difficulty with the download (I repeatedly got the error saying that the file cannot be downloaded securely) but then got the file OK by copying the download link to a new window (in Firefox) - which got the fie but I had to add the filename back (as that was lost on copying the link, I guess). After that the download was successful and I am about to install the app now - so thanks again.

Yes, when I did a clean install of Win 11 back in June, I looked down my apps library and installed it. The app won't show up in a search as it's technically not available
