Solved Why is my CPU overheating?

Possibly could get away with repasting and reseating the stock cooler, but they arent great . It is cheap to replace with something better and quieter.

Sixteen quid for cooler and twelve quid for ram. Worth doing. He might have to buy a bit of paste as well.

Dont throw the stock cooler away. If you pass that machine to someone in a couple of years you can put the stock cooler back on ( properly seated obviously)

That way you can transfer the thermalright cooler to another machine. It fits 115x/1200/1700/am4/am5

I agree.

Here is my concern — I am not trying to insult the member, but they took their computer to a tech to have the CPU put in.
Adding a fan like this, as you know, involves removing the motherboard and performing surgery, pasting the CPU etc etc

I’d certainly go for it, but maybe the member would like to buy the fan and take it to a tech and have them fix it.

I’d still like to know any other examples other than running a VM, that the CPU overheats.

Yes that is the plan to take it to the tech on Monday and have them fix it. He'll install the new fan, reapply the paste and check it's running properly. We'll add some more RAM too.

Ive always used 3rd party coolers in the builds I do for others. If the new far doesnt work out consider a Cooler Master 212 at around $25 US. The nice thing about going this route is that if you upgrade your system you can use it for that too.
