Solved Windows 11 overheating CPU

80℉ is only 27℃. Isn't that low for a stock cooler? Just saying.

Yeah I've seen people posting about 40-50 idle on that 😳 and a guy with a liquid cooler at 52 under load

I know I'm late to this conversation, but it would be my assertion that if your CPU is going up to 40 degrees C under load maybe THAT is the abnormal condition. Even with very good cooling that sounds low. 80 degrees C on a CPU is just fine for many CPUs (check the specs for your particular CPU).

So i installed windows 11 yesterday. Installed all the apps etc. And start to playing so games. My CPU goes to 80 degrees... never saw something like this on windows 10. Max 40 degrees on CPU when Load. Personally i dont recommend install windows 11. Because its not build properly. Yea i know its new there is allot issues to fix with a updates.
Maybe a bit late but, i just went to the task manager and finish the process "Windows Widgets", that worked for me.

I have the same issue. Once Win 11 is installed system temp is 44 when idle. The issue is the Windows 11 updates. Once updates are installed , temp rises. Refer the screenshot. I think either KB5010474 or KB5010414 is causing the issue.

Over a year later, still an issue (at least for me): 10c degrees at idle more than Win10, 20c+ when under load (GPU also affected). Only the OS has changed.

Thinking of reverting to Win10, seriously. The sound of the fans spinning up all the time (even with Power settings minimised) is starting to really grate...

im assuming you've repasted and re-seated youre cpu by now yeah? Assuming it didn't fix it? Try turning core isolation off and see if this affects anything,i noticed slightly lower temps after doing this ( Note : this was not why i was doing it).
Are you running custom fan curves also?

Using MSI Afterburner. Haven't redone CPU since it was fine before Win 11 full install (clean SSD). Only thing that has changed is the OS. Not tried core isolation yet but will do, thanks.

That'll do the GPU, what's doing the cpu? Should be a cpu fan controller in youre bios, have a look in there, I doubt it is the cpu needed re-pasted but it could have just went as you changed to windows 11(Slim chance i know but still for all it is). Worth a shot

After I noticed the fans spinning up on PC all the time I got Afterburner to show both CPU and GPU temps on taskbar and it was a shock. Sorry, yes CPU fan controller in BIOS but not gone in there yet. Have to do so to change settings anyhow as 'Core Isolation' doesn't show up in Settings - Security (due to virtualization not being enabled or something?). Will wait until after this current Windows Update patch is installed. 🤞

Yeah afterburner will show the temps but you can set a custom fan curve for you gpu through afterburner so you can choose what % of fan speed at whatever temp, Same with cpu in bios, Sounds like incorrectly configured fan curves, Bios for cpu, Msi for gpu, Both have fan controllers, Go in and have a look. Hmm not sure, I have it off anyway as well as mem integrity again not recommending to turn em off if you keep em on but purely for testing atleast.

Well I've turned SVT On, "memory integrity" is Off. Power saving is On. Not touched the hardware or manually set fan profiles but temps are 10+c lower now (y) though still higher than on Win10 with Power Saving set to 'Performance'...

More accurate? No.

Finer increments, yes (5/9 of 1° C).
Fahrenheit, however, has the benefit of being more precise. For example, while 32 degrees Fahrenheit = 0 degrees Celsius, 35 degrees Fahrenheit = 1.6 degrees Celsius, which would likely be rounded up to 2°C to avoid having to use decimals.

So yes, Fahrenheit is more accurate. You will NEVER see me using any type of the metric system at all. It's not taught in American Schools, and it never should be. I mean, sure you have lessons on it in grade school, but overall, it's only used by scientists, etc, and it shouldn't be. Makes me mad when YouTubers use the metric system, and I have to pull up google to do conversions. . . . I've never used it, and never will.

Im from the UK, I know both, It isn't hard. Both are helpful, The world doesn't cater to the USA sadly, Why should people in other english speaking countries use an american system? And asking them to do so is just so team usa better than everyone kinda speech.

Fahrenheit vs. Celsius: Did the U.S. Get It Right After All?

If you insist on sticking to integer values, Fahrenheit has better precision. It's possible to use numbers to the right of the decimal point, if better precision is needed. For either scale.

One nice thing about the Fahrenheit scale is that it is decimal, unlike the other English units. (Do you use the full set of traditional English units? Ells, furlongs, drams, etc.? Familiar with dry quarts vs. liquid ones? How many teaspoons to a cup? [48.])

I'm an American, and have lived in this country my whole life. The metric system was taught when I was in middle school in upstate NY, more than a half century ago. Maybe the teachers at that time and place were crypto commies.

I used metric in my profession (optical engineer) for many years. The mechanical engineers mainly used English units, except when dealing with non-US customers.

In science, the common scale for absolute temperature is Kelvins (which is based on Celsius). There's an English equivalent (Rankine), which I have never seen used at all.

It has long been a mystery to me why anyone would get excited about units. Or resist learning the basics of ones in common use.

I admit that I've never been fond of the slug. (That's the English unit of mass. Metric is the kilogram. A pound is a unit of force, not mass. A pound is 32.2 slug feet per second squared. Metric force is the Newton. A pound is 4.45 Newtons.)

When I lived in Tucson in the late 70s, the speed and distance signs on Interstate 19 (which runs only from Tucson to the Souther border) were posted only with metric values. A bill was introduced in the state legislature requiring the signs to be destroyed. An amendment required them to be destroyed by burning. (The signs were made of sheet steel. Not very flammable.)

The metric system still has its issues. It uses the same values for time as the English units. Not adequately decimalized.

That's only IF you're avoiding to use decimals. In which case "accuracy" becomes rather pointless (literally) anyway to begin with.
So yes, Fahrenheit is more accurate. You will NEVER see me using any type of the metric system at all. It's not taught in American Schools, and it never should be.
You'd be suprised to find out that a lot of scientific/tech research papers use Celsius everywhere in the US. E.g., for lithium ion rechargeable cell temperatures (datasheets and paperwork). Don't want to believe? Here's a guy who used to post eductional videos on YouTube, who lives in Manhattan, who designs test setups and procedures to test lithium ion rechargeable battery hi-tech industrial applications for a living and who has worked for major tech companies like HP (and even for the US military).
I mean, sure you have lessons on it in grade school, but overall, it's only used by scientists, etc, and it shouldn't be. Makes me mad when YouTubers use the metric system, and I have to pull up google to do conversions. . . . I've never used it, and never will.

Fahrenheit vs. Celsius: Did the U.S. Get It Right After All?
Do you mean to tell me that US scientists and tech specialists never went to school outside of grade school? (I feel I'm starting to finally understand why Microsoft sucks so hard.)

Kelvin is the basis that has to be used for all other temperature scales. This is due to a rather basic fact, whereas Both fahrenheit and celsius are affected by Pressure Kelvin is an absolute measurement as Zero Kelvin [ No Degree is used] is based on the absolute lack of any energy which is an identical point anywhere in the Universe
