It looks like MS have released the Windows 11 upgrade to more pc's that were previously waiting "while we get things ready" It is now finally available on the PC I was waiting on as posted in a previous thread. I am installing it now (fingers crossed it will be as easy as the other 3)

I've got 11 on three computers that were never evaluated ready or even compatible one way or another for 11
Question is why did you wait at all for ms to approve.

There will be threads starting a year from now, "Why haven't I gotten the upgrade yet?"

But at least it appears that Windows 11 is not producing the "forced upgrade" fiasco that Windows 7 to 10 upgrade did.

@ThrashZone The reason I waited was it is my wife's pc which she does all the household accounts etc on and I was in no hurry. I would never waste my time with an incompatible machine, so I left that on Win 10 it is great on 10 but I did try it when 11 first came out and it was slow.

Everything upgraded fine, no problems at all (not that there should be) In fact it was the easiest one to do as it didn't change any default apps and ExplorerPatcher soon put it right

Just a matter of opinion, that's mine, not saying it's right or wrong and fair play to people who do it, I just didn't want the hassle of changing too much. I also think that the tpm and secure boot etc is there for a reason

Well, then TPM and Secure Boot should be just as important for Windows 10 as it is for Windows 11, no?

Hi,
Beside deleting one file after the evaluation is done it's hardly a hassle upgrading manually with 11 iso
Only trick is disconnect from the internet or change updating options during the upgrade

Otherwise only usefulness of tpm is bitlocker and encryption software in general which not many individuals care about and if they had a flash drive tpm is unnecessary people have been using them to store keys for years.

Secure boot is docile even works on win-7 so yeah another lame requirement for 11 lol

i just did a inplace upgrade on a unsupported machine and its working for what i do .
and still geting a upgrades form windows updates . and if it stops i can get the updates from here and manually install

@ThrashZone Good comments but as I said I tried on an old machine that was not compatible and it ran like a 3 legged dog so back to 10 on that one. My others are all new (ish) so no need

Thing is 10 and 11 aren't all that different.
I have a 13 year old machine I have not bothered to use 11 on seeing I robbed the gpu from it to install on my x99 system.

Probably could but onboard graphic's would be a stretch to bother with even on 10.

Hi @ThrashZone You're right there not a lot of difference but my old one was just too slow on 11 but quick on 10, I only tried it on 11 because you could at the start (it was only my CPU not compatible ) just to see what it was like. Anyway all is good now with the household PC all I got to do now is go through settings and delete the apps and craps :lmao:

I have tested upgrading or installing 11 on three of my unsupported machines. Only one 'ran like a dog', but with an Intel Atom and just 2GB RAM even 64-bit W10 would have been as bad, no 64-bit OS should be asked to run in anything that small :D That test was to see just how low a spec I could get away with, I subsequently restored its 32-bit W10 system image.

For the other two, the one with the highest spec easily met all requirements except the processor, being a 6th gen i7. It's the main machine I use for running Hyper-V VMs. Having tested and found that everything ran just as well in W11 I then restored its W10 system image.

The other is my System Two below with its 1st gen i5. It runs W11 at least as well as, if not better that its W10 that I upgraded from. That is my test machine, and the only unsupported one I intend to keep on W11. That is a test to see if, and for how long, MS continue to update such unsupported devices.

For all machines I rely on for my daily tasks, I will only be running 11 on fully supported machines. The unsupported ones will remain on W10 for the foreseeable future, or until it is clear that MS will continue to provide updates, and that updating to 11 would be risk-free. And yes, like you I took a cautious approach for my compatible machines. I waited until the upgrade was offered in Windows Update before upgrading my System One, despite already knowing that it was a fully compatible machine.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
