win 11 pro and i7-7700 general question

friend buying a dell 7050 i7-7700 refurb machine, win 11 pro installed, curious if there will be any issues with the O/S and that
chip for regular user, (non-gamer) just everyday use on internet and getting win11pro updates etc. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

7th Gen CPU is not technically supported by Win 11, but it can be made to work very easily. Should be no issues. I am running several machines much older than that and all run flawlessly.

EDIT: I should add that now that you already have Win 11 on that machine, updates should proceed with no difficulties, the same as they would for a fully supported machine.

Just be aware that the machine will not automatically UPGRADE to the next version of Windows 11 or 12 or whatever Microsoft chooses to call it. It will have to be done manually. Likewise, If he ever has to do a repair install or clean install of his current installation. In all those instances, the iso will have to be altered to bypass hardware requirements. Many of us here prefer using Rufus to accomplish this.

So far MS has not blocked installing on incompatible hardware using these workarounds nor stopped giving these incompatible machines windows updates, but there are no guarantees what MS will do in the future. It's a shame your friend did not purchase one of the MANY super-cheap refurbished machines that's hardware is compatible. They are plentiful.

Minimum spec for a supported Intel processor is an 8th gen Intel Core CPU. Your friend has a 7th gen Core i7. I have had Windows 11 running with no issues on various unsupported devices from a 1st gen i5 (my System Two) up to a 6th gen i7.

As glasskuter says, an unsupported device will get all the updates for its current version of Windows 11, but will not be offered a feature update to the next version. That will have to be applied manually. I'm one of the few that prefers to use a few simple registry patches rather than Rufus to bypass the system checks on an upgrade, Option Three here:
