Win 11 Pro and Live Mail


Some modern mail servers require to enable authentication and secure ports, not the older email ports. I don't remember details now, see your email server SMTP configuration.

With the guidance of my domain provider I did have to reset some settings within TB, port numbers and a couple of other things.

However still can't receive messages to my mail boxes sent from my email accounts within TB but do receive them via LM.

The reason for this I'm told, if I understood correctly is I can't have two email clients TB & LM both using Pop 3 protocols.

I either set both TB and LM to IMAP so they synchronise or delete LM if I'm to start using only TB as my email client.

That what I was told but don't know what Imap is or understood correctly.

You just need to close Windows Live Mail when you use Thunderbird and vice versa. Don't have open both at the same time.

It is closed, I don't have LM opened until I click on the LM shortcut icon on my desktop.

I'm not sure enabling IMAP will solve the issue, just been reading up on it and IMAP simply allows, among other things, several devices to synchronises with each other. I don't have several devices just one I receive/send emails on, my PC so not sure why I can't send/receive emails to my email boxes within TB but they end up in my LM inboxes.

It may still be the case I can't have two email clients both using Pop 3 protocols on the same PC, more delving.

Have you tried port 995 for POP3 or 993 for IMAP and port 465 (SSL authentication) or 587 (TLS authentication) for SMTP? In both POP3/IMAP and SMTP you have to choose SSL/TLS or OAth 2.0 or other authentication. See your email server configuration. For example for Gmail you set:

POP3 incoming server: pop.gmail.com, port: 995, SSL authentication
IMAP incoming server: imap.gmail.com, port 993, SSL authentication
SMTP (sending) server: smtp.gmail.com, port 465 (SSL authentication) or 587 (TLS authentication)

You can use two Email client Apps and indeed more when using IMAP. Each one just syncs to the contents of the Email servers.

Currently I have the Mail App and BlueMail under test both running at the same time.

I gave up on the POP3 protocol a decade or more ago.

As fas as I know, IMAP doesn't download the emails locally, it just access them from the server. If for some reason you need a local copy, you must use POP3.

Don't know about 995 for POP 3, just doing as was advised but changed setting for both TB email boxes to 465 SSL and enabled SSL/TLS authentication.

Do I need to change these setting in both LM and TB, in other words they all have to match?

I back up anyway but was told if I were to change to IMAP to back up all my LM email accounts/folders but unless I have to change I will stick to POP 3.

I'm sure it's me, something simple I'm not doing/understanding but felt sure my domain hoster had solved it after changes were made, but no.

You don't have to change anything Windows Live Mail since it is working properly. Just configure Thunderbird to make that work as well. One is not dependent on the other.

Yes you can (y) .

The only thing you can not do, is use a PST file with 3rd party Email clients. PST are Microsoft proprietary.

You can have as many POP3 email accounts as you like. They can all have identical Incoming & Outgoing protocols.
The identifying factor is the email address (Username) & password.

I could create 1000 email accounts for a single domain on one of my servers and they will all use the same protocols. But they wont all have the same username & Pass.

What interface does your domain panel have? Is it cPanel?

Who is the web domain host?

For your domain, I would suspect that the incoming & outgoing protocols for fetching and receiving are as follows

mail.notanotherone.uk
Port numbers as per the web hosts specifications
Most all modern web servers use SSL/TLS or STARTTLS
Some will require you to check the Authentication Needed

The only thing you can not do, is use a PST file with 3rd party Email clients. PST are Microsoft proprietary.

You can have as many POP3 email accounts as you like. They can all have identical Incoming & Outgoing protocols.
The identifying factor is the email address (Username) & password.

I could create 1000 email accounts for a single domain on one of my servers and they will all use the same protocols. But they wont all have the same username & Pass.

What interface does your domain panel have? Is it cPanel?

I'm repeating what I have been told or at least what I understood to have been told by my domain provider.

However it did seem strange to me I could not have two email clients on the same PC both using POP 3 protocols.

But have I explained the issue accurately.

I have installed and set up TB and I see what you mean I can and it does look a lot like Live Mail and I think it may well suit me.

I set up my two email accounts in TB, I can see them but some of the settings and ports were wrong so my domain provider helped me through that, see previous post.

But the issue remains If I send test messages between email accounts in TB they are not received, they instead are received by my Live Mail email boxes, that's the issue.

I don't know if its cPanel, ( edit, if cPanel stands for Control Panel then yes it's how I log in ), and its Fasthost.
