Win 11 Pro and Live Mail

don't confuse the test setup I made for you, Jay (jay-test @ flexihost.net) with your actual domain info
Success I think, the issue was I was altering the settings as per your posts and that given me by my domain host but what TB wasn't telling me to do was to restart TB.

I had changed the incoming server to mail.livemail.co.uk for both accounts but it required a restart to affect the change, never got this info, this time I went through all the server settings again with a fine tooth, ( another one ), got a warning to to restart and it appears to work.

I will send a few more test messages within the accounts just to make sure and then start playing.

Time for a cuppa. :-)

? So I was right or wrong?
Right, I had set it like you suggested except I used the port numbers given me by my domain host, I change one as you suggested to 995. I then cleared and retyped " mail.livemail.co.uk " and that was where the close and restart of TB was required, I had not gotten that window before, after that it all seems to work, so yeah you were right.

I have to say some of the advice from my domain host was a little off, so a smiling face and some relief that it's sorted.

Thanks for your patience and perseverance in this with me, it's very much appreciated. :-) 🙏

My OS for now is Win 10 Pro but am upgrading to Win 11.

I have Thunderbird installed, version 128.3.2esr 64bit and pretty much got it looking/behaving as Live Mail does.

Some minor glitches I hope, the first, bulk deletion of unwanted emails in TB.

I selected 80 emails for deletion/trashing, clicked the Trash icon, it took 42 minutes to complete, this cannot be right, I tried the compacting option which had no effect on speeding things up.

Trashing one email, its ok, almost instant, three or over and the process is very slow.

I joined the TB forums to get answers to the glitches I'm have but have not received any replies.

How do I resolve the above.

I resolved the issue above but not sure why it worked.

Basically instead of using export in Live Mail and .eml what I did was copy& paste all LM email folder contents to temporary folders on my desktop.

Then opened up TB and using the NG add on extension used its import function to directly transfer all the contents in those temporary folders to folders created in TB, worked a treat and zipped through the process.

For some reason I don't understand, bulk deletion is no longer an issue, it got resolved using the method above and a joy to use.

Anyone who used Live Mail in the past but now uses TB will understand the next glitch and no amount of my reading and tinkering with TB has solved it so far.

In LM if someone sent an email with 2-3-4 image attachments, I would receive them, they would be smallish thumb nail type images in a line at the top of the received email, I could view them all at the same time, save them to a folder and open them in photo viewer.

What's happening now is if images are sent to my TB inbox, I can receive and view them but the dimensions of the images are huge, there doesn't appear to be away to receive them inline as thumb nails?

I've had no joy from the TB forums.

Thanks Steve, I did find this and read through all the replies but the issue there was composing and sending images.

My issue is not the sending of images, I have done this and all seems to work, it's receiving them not as in-line thumb nails so to speak but huge images, I have to scroll up/down and sidewards to view an image.

Hi @jaylob4 ,

I tested with MS Outlook and TB and you are right, I can't get thumbnails previewed as 'small icons' as I get with MS Outlook or other MS mail client. Using TB preview message pane helped somewhat but no thumbnails there either.

I think the difference is because in Windows Live Mail the images are included as attachments, separately from the text. In Thunderbird they are embedded in the text, so they appear in full size, rather than thumbnails. I am not sure if there is a setting to change this.

I think the difference is because in Windows Live Mail the images are included as attachments, separately from the text. In Thunderbird they are embedded in the text, so they appear in full size, rather than thumbnails. I am not sure if there is a setting to change this.
That makes sense to me.

It just surprises me all the developers of TB have not resolved this.

It may well be it can't be resolved, it is how it is.
