WIN 11 PRO
I tried to get the latest Win Updates. Win 11 updates have been stuck for a few hours with the message "working on updates" with a arrow moving left to right. I closed it using task manager and rebooted. When I choose settings / windows updates even after the reboot it's still working on updates. Download and install is greyed out. All the selected updates say - pending download. AI mode of google tried a bunch of Command prompts and nothing worked even after reboot. Also the Windows Update troubleshooter failed

Hi Gerry,
Can you recall what updates for which version of Windows 11 are you having the issues?
Do you have a restore point or a backup you can use?

You can always try Shawn's script to reset your WU components.
Code:
@echo off

Hi All,

This is from CoPilot.

iex (irm fixupdates.tc.ht) is a PowerShell one-liner.

  • irm = Invoke-RestMethod, which downloads content from a URL.
  • iex = Invoke-Expression, which immediately executes the downloaded content as PowerShell code.
In this case, fixupdates.tc.ht serves a PowerShell script intended to repair Windows Update issues. According to the script's published description, it can reset Windows Update components, undo certain update-disabling changes, and run update repair routines. [fixupdates.tc.ht], [github.com], [hub.tcno.co]

Important: Running iex (irm ...) executes code directly from the internet on your computer. Even when the source appears legitimate, it's safer to review the script before running it. The source code is publicly available on GitHub and through the script's web page.

Ciao, Han

There are some caveats.

Search result -

The command iex (irm fixupdates.tc.ht) downloads and runs the TroubleChute Windows Update Fixer script (created by Wesley Pyburn) directly from fixupdates.tc.ht in PowerShell.

What the Script Does
    • Elevates Privileges: Automatically requests Administrator rights (and optionally attempts to run as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM using Sysinternals PsExec).
    • Undoes Tweaks: Reverts changes applied by third-party privacy/debloating tools like Privacy.sexy and windows-update-disabler.
    • Resets Services: Restores default startup types for core Windows Update services (wuauserv, UsoSvc, DoSvc, BITS, CryptSvc).
    • Clears Cache: Deletes or renames corrupted update cache and datastore folders (SoftwareDistribution, Catroot2).
    • Reregisters Components: Re-registers system DLL files tied to Windows Update and resets network/WinSock stacks.
    • Clears Policies: Removes custom Group Policy or registry blocks restricting Windows Updates.

Safety and Precaution
    • Running remote code: Executing scripts straight from the internet (iex/Invoke-Expression combined with irm/Invoke-RestMethod) grants the script full control over your system.
    • Review first: It is always safer to inspect remote scripts before piping them directly into iex. You can view the full source code on the TroubleChute Script Hub.
