It's gotta be something that was added cuz Defender don't like it! WT 1.63.0.0 loads okay.

When Defender id's this as a threat, there is an option to allow it. There's also an option to revoke it.

It appears to be a detection error with Defender's latest update. The program has run fine since the 11th of Dec of last year until this morning.

Yeah, I ticked both the "Compatibly mode" box and the "Run this program as an administrator" box. That's how I was able to get it to work.

After years of leaving it alone, it seems to me Microsoft is doing what it can to thwart any 3rd party modifications to the OS, and it wouldn't surprise me if they force any 3rd party mods into using "Compatibility mode" in the future.

That is, until they do away with "Compatibility mode", altogether.

If you run the program again and let it detect it again as a virus, you should have the option to allow it to run in Defender.

Ah.. I see what is happening. You have to open Defender immediately, otherwise the current threat clears and you do not have the option (Start actions) to allow it.

Bingo, mine clears really fast before I can click or get to anything lol.

I can't get Winaero Tweaker v1.64.2.0 to run even as Administrator on one of my computers.
Windows Defender is disabled.

Runs fine here.
I have smart app control > OFF.
Starts without right click run as admin but asks for UAC permission when starting (Correct behavior)
Winaero Tweaker says it's running v1.64.2

im using Winareo 1.64.2 and its working, as in, not blocked

but i do have the Winareo.exe file set to run as Administrator
the same as Revouninstaller, Wise registry cleaner and Wise Disk Cleaner
these programs i use on a regular basis

not sure if that is of any help.

No problem with Winaero Tweaker v1.64.1.0 for me.
Only Winaero Tweaker v1.64.2.0 has given me issues.

I don't think there's a change log for Winaero Tweaker v1.64.2.0 yet.

I tried run as administrator, disabling smart app control and disabling a couple other security settings as well but it didn't matter. Only thing that works for me is changing the compatibility properties for the WinareoTweaker.exe on the Intel machines and for the ARM64 machine I have to briefly disable Windows Security until I get Winareo open first.

These constant MS coding changes are really making it hard for 3rd party tweakers to keep their apps functioning. I recently lost TranslucentTB on two of my machines due to 26200 and later builds disrupting the undocumented shell APIs that it relies on and now this widespread Winaero Tweaker security issue.

It appears to be triggered by the latest update of Windows Defender of which I had two, this morning.

Winaero Tweaker 1.64.2 is now available

Here is a new version of Winaero Tweaker that changes behavior of the "Advanced Appearance > Window Borders" option, improves the "Aero Lite" theme,

Lists quite a few changes.

Using undocumented APIs or left over code (aka explorer patcher before 24H2) is a big no no. You should expect to face issues in the future.

Something new has caused the issue, because I didn't have the problem with v1.64.1.0.

If you read back through the thread you'll discover the commonality of Defender updating. This program version 1.64.2.0 was fine since the day installed it Dec 11 2025. This issue only started today.
