Window 11 won't let me install cheat engine 7.4 it flags it as a virus

Cheat Engine is not a virus, its detected as a virus because it can attach itself to processes and modify memory.
this is needed to be able to change the value in game to get infinite health, ammo etc.
Then it should be blocked anyway IMO. Why cheat at games? If you can't play them properly then don't play them at all

Fair enough. I hope the OP installs the cheat engine and gives him malware.

Other than for bragging rights, for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want to cheat in a computer game, but that's just this little old lady's opinion. I don't claim to understand some of the things the younger generation does these days. If one has to cheat to win, is he/she really the winner in their own mind? What sense of accomplishment in their own skills can they get out of it? Beats the heck out of me.

Ok - so cheat engines - do they help you cheat or prevent you cheating?
Cheat engines help you cheat and anti-cheat does the opposite.

For those wondering why you want to install a cheat client? To be honest, so many people do it these days, for some games, you have to install a cheat client to be on a level-playing field and it is very fun for a short time playing with one them. I very rarely play games these days though.

Honestly people need to learn before they type xD, A trainer or a cheat engine( Some are online most are offline) is to unlock the dev contols within an offline(Usually) environment, Eg the test tools that dev have, Both making the game harder and also easier, Depending on what you want. Im not a personal user of these things, I like the games made by devs and leave it at that, I do however mod games, Which is different altogether, I would also say that cheating online is a different ballgame and would thus implore you to leave it alone and not ruin it or anyone else. Offline, Do what you want, Most things like this are called trainers, Which are entirely legal. Cheat engines, Depending on the nature, Can be both legal and illegal depending on what each entails. People be tripping man.
Personally wouldn't install this one but to say that all trainers and cheat engines are illegal or wrong...is simply wrong.

My god, this is the most interesting thing I've ever read. I don't think I've ever been plagued by a malware for five years with cheat engine, and to be frank, this is the first time I've ever heard that cheat engine carries malwares after trying to find out how to install the program into my new PC. All I knew was that my new PC (rip old PC for too many files my dad made for our church) persistently believes that it contains viruses.

You don't have to trust me, but just as I implied, my PC literally hasn't been screwed over. Yet. I mean, seriously, this program has viruses and it's almost been SIX years???? Man, time by went fast. There's another user I just saw who used it since 2001.

For anyone who is curious is know why I installed this program: I already played Undertale fair and square for mutiple endings, I'm trying to unlock Hacker Ending now but I don't understand how. I might search up how soon if I'm desperate enough. Though, it would've been cool if Toby Fox added another dialogue when I survive (by cheating) Sans' fatal attack like how Sans somehow knows players cheated and gets the Hacker Ending. And it's not just that, there are just too many easter eggs which I don't want to repeat the process over for the thousandth time.

Btw, the Cheat Engine just unironically installed an anti-virus program.

Perhaps it does contain malware.

Denis
It does, what ended up helping was googling for an old version on the cheat engine. What they do with the new one is try to get you to pay via Patreon for a "clean" version. Most things you need it for are older anyhow. Wemod is better for the newest ones.

Ah but this newer version does include artemis, they want you to pay on Patreon to not get it LOL. Google around for a 3rd party site with an archived version. It did install, and it didn't get blocked. https://github.com/cheat-engine/cheat-engine/archive/refs/tags/7.2.zip That was the version on my older PC I think.

If you're certain it's not bad, then add the file to the exclusion list. Virus and Threat protection -Virus and Threat protection settings -Manage settings - Exclusions -add or remove Exclu
It Could be

but Im downloading it from the main site
and i have used cheat engine before
I dont see how it has malware

one thing i did not do is restart windows after changes
That's why it does contain it. The main site is selling it now on Patreon, without the malware. You want to google for their archived versions on the 3rd party sites. That or as he puts it wait for a few years till the Anti Virus stops tagging artemis included crap as a virus. Or he grows a brain, removes artemis, and instead adds say a chrome extension we can opt into, or not. Patreon is ok, if he added extra features, early access to them. That's the typical use for it. For most cases google what Wemod is, I'm just trying something in an older game they don't support in my version of it. It's way way better than cheat engine for all else though. You search for your game, it gives you the page and you just choose what to activate.

If you're that worried about cheat engine, setup a windows sandbox to use vGPU and Memory and run the game and cheat engine there (provided the game runs well enough for you to do things to track stats/inventory in cheat engine), save the game and then transfer the save file to the host computer.

This is to explain why you'd want it. I'm guessing you're not a gamer of today's types of games. 1 typical RPG uses 1 material per pieces of clothing usually 7 to upgrade. You do upgrade it every few hours. Now the games want you to walk around clicking to get the materials required which in itself might take hours too. First time playing you don't even mind much. Things like this program would let you find 2 of 7 needed, then find the code for the item, multiply to 100, and never bother clicking the same rocks every few hours. It cuts down on things inserted by the developers specifically to make the game take longer. Especially replaying it can get very annoying. No one is talking about scoring goals, or winning car races, or shootouts. I'm guessing it's what you were imagining.

just add the folder where it will be installed the exclusions and be happy.
this only happens with CE 7.4, with version 7.5 you don't need to add the exclusions.
CE 7.5 works normally

So it's still a form of cheating. You're doing something to make it easier for yourself so it's cheating.

dear jesus. How many times has it been said, The trainer's are developer tools, Usually anyway, If they are used in a single player offline environment they are usually used by those who have completed the game already then i see no issue, If it is online then yes thats absolutely different. But those are generally called hackers and not people who use trainers. Honestly please everyone who reads this thread, Educate yourself on what they are prior to engaging in the OMG hes cheating stereotype, Have any of you heard of mods? Then by logic set in this thread those are also cheats to which is just ridiculous, The level of bs in this thread is an embarrassment.

TLDR: Most trainers are fine for offline use, Online use is where the line is drawn. Trainers are often developer tools.
