Windows 10 update to W 11

One further message. If I were to try to attach the specs of the laptop, I doubt if there's enough room to attach the entire "Speccy". So, tell me what specs you need? It's a Dell, Intel, 8 GB. I use it 99% offline, no printer connection. Just online for updates.
Didn't this show how many recovery partitions?
It shows 3, but they are numbered 4,5,6. Does that mean there are 6 total? Where are #s 1,2,3?
I don't have the slightest idea of what this all has to do with upgrading?

Can't I just upgrade on the laptop by clicking Install and follow the prompts? Knowing that I have my personal files on flash drives?
Why should I have to use a 3rd party back up? Isn't using flash drives the same? Just as using the cloud redundant?
For these questions just keep in mind that there usually is at least two ways to accomplish the same goal, not all work for all people so go with what gets the results you want. As for the Upgrade I've not lost files when doing from within the previous version while it was running.

I think I understand. You are saying it might or might not be a problem.
But isn't there a way to know for sure? Since this is based upon the upgrade being offered direct via Windows update? My thinking is that it should be no problem because of that. But yes, we know that Microsoft don't always do what we think.
Another opinion, please.
I guess when I ask for a yes or no. It should get a response from someone that has already done it this way. And when done that way, did it require all that extra work or did it upgrade with Foxit and LibreOffice still on the laptop/PC.
I have been working on computers since the DOS days, back in the 80's. I have been helping family and friends from that time forward to now. Most systems have had no issue with the upgrade, but I have encountered more than one that has had an issue. Therefore, my answer is as I stated in my first post. And yes, I am someone who has done it this way!

OK TO ALL: Within the next few days, I will make this attempt to upgrade. If I have a problem I will be back. And if it's successful, I will also be back.
I do want to thank each and every one that has helped. I know y'all have good intentions. I try to keep that in mind. I just wish I had taken the time when younger to try to be a guru. <with small grin>

As they say, timing is everything. I got my first computer in '92, MS-DOS with Win3.1, retired [with full benefits] 2 years later and week later was offered a part-time job in a computer store/shop and started building computers full-time a month after that. I had not yet reached 55 so also have been at it for awhile, not quite as much as @Sir George.

I did have a PC with W 3.1. And not enough power to get email. I had to use a simple email server that I could only use text on. After a few months of that, received an offer from my sister to buy a new one. Don't even remember what W, maybe 95?
And at that same time, work brought in W 95, but no Internet, just Intranet. But that was all I used. Never did understand all the mumbo jumbo with DOS, etc.
I even blew up the whole system at work. I tried playing with the monitor's pixels. Tried to input too large a number and the whole system at work went down. They never did punish me, just let me keep doing stupid things. They never had any training, so we were all left alone to mess up.
Others did similar things.
So all my years with PCs have been just the normal things we all do at home.
I've heard it said that the Internet/WWW, is now so large that there is no one person that knows it all. That we may never have that kind of smarts/knowledge.
Again, thanks to all.

If it's of any value, at one time I upgraded main PC from W7 to W8 an 8.1 to W10 and to w11 thru about 5 major upgrades of HW and 4 generation of processors and heavens knows how many disks, lost the count some time ago and never had any major issues or lost any major SW except couple of games that wouldn't run and still won't.

Goht: I'll keep that in mind for now. As I said, I'll try the upgrade as simple as I know how. So that, if I mess it up, I can blame it on myself. Speccy can wait. I'm not brushing you off, I'm just getting to the point of trying the upgrade first. Don't take this as not listening to you.
I have read each and every message. But will have to bite the bullet and try. That's what I call "gaining experience".

Lol, I'm not a computer or software scientist either but was at it long time now, before DOS.
Windows are quite flexible even with different hardware, things which a I gave little chance of succeeding. For instance,a friend of mine asked me to install W10 on a disk from an ancient Intel Core 2 PC that didn't even meet W10 standards and refused to install. Low and behold it booted and worked after few restarts although I installed it on then latest AMD Ryzen.
