Solved Windows 11 and Hyper V enhanced session.

Hi folks
Try setting up W11 (I assume your HYPER-V VM is running W11 which seems to be where the problem is) as a Tiger vnc server and connect from the HOST Windows machine via a VNC display rather than RDP.

I also assume that the problem is trying to connect to the VM from a different machine on your LAN rather than simply HOST to VM communication.

Cheers

If using MS account and enhanced mode, "Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts" must ne OFF.
Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

Windows Hello is for local logins only.

Nothing new here. Windows 11 is Windows 10, so far.
This and using remote connection works if guest is win pro.

thanks. I ran into this today playing with Insider Dev Preview 22557. Had to disable this to get enhanced session to work. This post got me going much faster than I would have searching for this myself.

OK, my idea did not work.

A possible workaround, John: Connect to a single display, not too high resolution enhanced session. When connected, close the VM window. Select Edit session settings on VM pane in Hyper-V Manager (bottom right pane):

View attachment 57

It re-opens VM Connect window. Now select Use all monitors. It just might work, repeat the procedure if not: close VM Connect Windows, re-open it from Edit session settings.

This is an old trick, I had to do it sometimes multiple times to finally get to enhanced mode when we were still using pre-release Insider builds late 2014 - early 2015.

Kari
Using one monitor, and switching off the other one worked for me! :D Thank you so much for the idea Kari! *

Well, I finally got around to getting a more modern video card that I've been wanting for a while to replce my aging 970, as well as upgrading my storage, and after playing around with them, I think it is time to start setting up some new Vms.

At least this time I'll be ready to have them working correctly the way that I want and need them to lol.

Kari, your posts in this thread have been incredibly helpful, so thank you! However, there are two things I still don't understand (or maybe I should say that there are two things I have *overlooked* in this thread?): 1) What do we do if the option to disable the "Windows Hello" feature is itself disabled? (In other words, it's on by default, and greyed-out). On a side note, my VM is not on a domain etc. (so there shouldn't be any type of policies etc. affecting the VM), but my Hyper-V host PC is indeed "joined" to an Azure-AD (but I don't think that affects the VM....correct?). And 2) If the solution to the first problem is your suggested "hybrid local account" method of installation, I thought I remember hearing that Windows-11 finally got rid of the ability to install that operating system without a Microsoft Account (Windows-10 made it difficult, but Windows-11 has made that impossible).....Is that not correct?

Again, my apologies if I have overlooked the answers to these questions within this thread! :( Thanks again for all the assistance here!

I just set up 3 new VMs yesterday - on initial install, that option seems to be disabled, until you get through the process of setting up the Hello method to log in (PIN). At that point, (perhaps after a reboot), the option should be there to be disabled.

Side question: @Kari - if I understand correctly, I need to use my PW to log in every time I boot with Enhanced Session / enable it in the VM, correct?
