Windows 11 Annoyances

I have the same issue. and if I try to rename a folder, when I click to the right of the name to rename it, it just opens the file, folder, or picture, etc. I want the Show more options window to be permanent, that change was stupid IMO. No reason for it.

I`m going to attempt a repair install to see if it fixes the issue.

OK the reason it disappears has been identified a few posts up, if you have your mouse set to single click (like I like to do, I hate clicking twice) that is what`s causing the issue. If you set your mouse to double click (which I think is silly) the right click window works fine :)

Renaming a file or folder in File Explorer works exactly as it should here.

Not if you have single click enabled, if you try to rename something using the 1st window and click to the right of the name of the object you want to rename, the object just runs or opens.

If you enable double click, renaming works perfectly from the 1st window. When you enable single click, it breaks this.

And IMO, the Show more options window should be the default window, it gives you more options than the 1st window, especially if you add options yourself such as winzip, take ownership, etc.

I agree. I wanted to use a different image for the desktop on my second screen and I didn't think it was possible until I happened to read through the options and discovered "Show more options". :eyeroll:

Why don*t you use F2 ror renaming?
And about the capaitalization issue: actually, the file will be renamed, just hit F5 to refresh the window.

OMG I am such a Happy Camper, after switching the mouse back to 2 clicks and running the regedit file, I now get the full context menu when I right click an item.

Still hate to double click on every thing, but I`ll deal with it.

Even that can be changed in File Explorer Settings under "Folder and Search Options", "Click Item as follows". I have set it to single click since years.

I have always set mine to single click for the last century but if you read, that`s what caused the issue in the 1st place.

It`s 1 of the 1st things I change when I customize windows.

I set it back to single click and the drop down seems to open and stay open no problem again.

I don't mind change sometimes..., but this..., this is an entire departure from the norm!!!

10 needs fewer alterations out of the box but you tend to go custom regardless
Better start menu that could at least be resized to show all apps ezpz
Explorer ribbon is better
Task bar is better
Context menus are normal

Why use 11 over 10 @AddRAM ?

Well I didn't use 10 all that much either except for oc benchmarks so both are lipstick on a pig 11 just needs more lipstick and some major surgery on the start button frankly classic/ open shell is not the answer to than just a lame reaction lol

Lets have Control panel -- OR settings one or the other please -- total mismash between the two and also on right mouse click on Windows start menu.

Still also problem with File explorer and file / path lengths > 266 chars even though Windows itself can display them properly. Trouble is file explorer and a load of apps using the old API run up against the limitation -- newer programs like filezilla can display them properly.

I installed 11 with no compatibility just for grins to see how long it will take ms to kick me off with no uefi only boot/ gpt/ secure boot/ tpm.

But reality is 10 does need fewer alterations than 11.
Same third party utilities are needed so I don't see anything so called better as some might insist

If I wanted to use xbox I'd just buy a console.
Hell steam works pretty good on linux now lol
