Windows 11 Annoyances

I now have the developer version working on my 'unsupported' Dell laptop but with a nag screen:

I originally install the leaked version of W11 in Hyper V then copied the .vhdx files to a W11 partition and set that partition to dual boot with Windows 10. W11 then found all the drivers needed. I then joined the Insider program and got the update with nag screen shown above.

I so far have the following issues. Does anyone have a fix?

Open Shell does not open using mouse hover
Autoruns doesn't work properly since it shows many Microsoft options which should be hidden
Right click requires you to press Shift + F10 to see all options. i would like to see the Send To option. I tried the Windows 10 Forum registry fix but that didn't work.
How to remove the above nag screen?

Does not require Shift+F10, at the bottom you can click for more option and I agree with you - it is annoying. I hope that the final will be corrected.
Remember, is not even Beta.

Here are a few of mine

A lot of elements that have lists of items, like the Event viewer, no longer consistently open the item when you click anywhere on the line. I have to click on the leftmost icon of line, in this case, to view the event. Same with other windows elements.

A lot of these windows utilities, like the event viewer, still don't follow the windows (dark) theme. C'mon it has been years to get this right! This makes the user interface and themes seem like a hack job.

Context menu: While I can see the full right click context menu, without the "show more options", by setting the explorer option to open windows in a new process, this doesn't apply to the desktop, which has the new context menu with the "show more options"

Not being able to open the task manager from the task bar, and other lost taskbar functionality.

Right clicking the start menu in the taskbar pops up a list of items (including the taskbar). This list is sometimes stubbornly persistent, and you have to click on the Start menu taskbar icon to get rid f it if you have not selected anyhting on it. Also, if I right click on it to open it, it open it with the taskbar set to auto-hide, it first opens to a position above the taskbar, then when the taskbar autohides, it shifts down. This happens fast enough that you can end up selecting the wrong item on the list. It should pop up above the taskbar and stay there.

My major annoyance is that MS is NOT listening to their users as they claim. Why would anyone using a PC want to go into settings to change a simple thing that was able to be changed in Windows 95 with a single click. The Desk Top Context Menu is another step backwards. Windows 11 however at this stage is very stable and faster that Windows 10. There could be a reason that they are doing this.

The issue is who should they listen to? So many want so many differing things MS has to be the one that makes the final determination on the function/feel and layout of the OS. I wish they would share with us why they're doing things the way they are. It would be nice to know how and why they make the decisions they do concerning the OS.

They do have the ability to take a consensus of all of the input that is uploaded in The Hub both Problems and or suggestions. The problem is that they are trying to implement one platform for all devices. They do not even refer to your PC as a PC it is now a device. The majority of end users will use whatever MS puts out without question. Yes MS has to make the final decision but they should listen to input from the people that are in The IP. There are maybe a hundred or so apps out there to customize Windows the way a user wants it to look and act. An Operating System should be just that and not come with an embedded Browser that one is almost forced to use, Maybe The EU will sue them again? Users should and do have a choice of what to use.

Most users I suspect will not know how to go about finding and installing a separate browser they will just use the one that came with the OS and Personally,, I wouldn't want to see the mess we would have if users had a say into what the OS does or looks like.

If someone cannot find where to find and how to install a separate Browser they should not be using any Device. It is not Rocket Science. Most users of Windows Customize it to their liking anyway. If not For Windows 10 Forums and all of the Shawn/John forums, users would be in the blind as MS has real lag in any form of Change log.. I have about 150 reg hacks that were all made by Shawn, and I use them ( not all but some). I also am Using Classic Shell 4.31, and it works great in 10 & 11. In Windows 7, I used Custom Themes. If you do not believe a user should have a say then maybe you should uninstall The Hub as MS does look at the suggestions, they have actually used some of them. It is fine , you have a choice and so do I and everyone else. :thumbsup:

Many don't use forums or are aware of them and they're not as sophisticated as we are. They just want to use it and the default browser fits the need.

This is true but these people would not be in The IP using Windows 11.

My annoyance right from the beginning, is that the volume and battery icon were hidden. Unlike Windows 10 there is not option to hide them, now that they are present on the Taskbar.

While the discussion between Josey and Bunny is definitely enlightening, and neither of them is wrong, you have to remember one thing:

The vast majority of this thread applies to the here and now, not to what Windows 11 will be when it is released to the general public.

For the here and now, Josey is right - if you're awake enough to join the IP you're awake enough to install different browsers.

For the future, though, Bunny is also right - when the general public starts to buy machines with Win11 pre-installed, or upgrade their current machines to 11, you will invariably have people like my aging parents who use Edge, and have used it for a while now, since they got Win10 machines.

Yes. Because it is already there. Most of these people don't evaluate it it as being good, or anything like that - it's just there.

The default browser is still needed and there are default browsers in various distributions of Linux as well as Windows. I don't see the issue in having a default and letting people change to another one if they want to. Heck.. back in the day the only use for IE was to get another browser.

The problem starts when you make Firefox default.

I play Solitaire and it stops connecting, if I sync both EDGE & Firefox, Firefox stops syncing and I get no connectivity To The Net. This did not happen in Windows 10.

Needed? Nope. But to keep novice users from panicking that they cannot get on the Internet to get said browser to download, it is offered with the OS.

Microsoft got in to a lot of trouble by offering only IE as an 'integrated' browser, hence once of the reasons why the Windows 7 {Edition} and Windows 7 {Edition N} variants were born.

It could be but like I said, it did not happen on 10. I upgraded to 11 from 19043.1110 with all of the same Aps and Programs.
