Interesting - this is one bug that hasn't manifested for me since I cleanly installed.

Not really that scary, it's not the real-time protection that's broken, just the GUI app that lets you see and change its settings. Anyway, mine isn't broken, so it seems it's only some systems that are affected.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

And wouldn't you know my computer isn't affected! Because I'm in Windows 10! Sheesh . . . heading over to Windows 11 . . . <Sigh>

And, of course, it's like I didn't even change from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Not a thing wrong with Windows Defender. Even the "Virus and Threat Protection" that kept turning itself off is now working correctly.

Oh, well, if it saves one or two from pulling their hair out over not being able to open Windows Security, I guess I can stand the embarrassment. o_O

There was a user here that had the bug and mentioned it at least a couple of weeks ago. Have to dig up that post and see if it was solved (I believe it was).

Windows 11 - Windows Defender missing

Hi, Yesterday I opt-ed in Windows 11 Beta and received the latest beta, upgrade went smooth but Windows Defender is missing somehow, whenever I open settings and then head to security and click on Windows Security and click on any settings I receive this pop-up I tried resting the package...

I kept looking for 'Windows app' and 'security app' because that is what I remembered the topic being.

Linked the OP to your post here though. His 'fix' was a clean install. Supports my original guess that I didn't see it since I had clean installed.
