Win 11 23H2 Build 22631.3374 (64bit)
Friends
I am facing weird problem since last 15-20 days.
I have HP EliteBook 850 G3, intel i7, 6th Gen, 2.6 to 2.81GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD (for OS) and 1TB HDD for Data.
My system freezes / hangs randomly sometime in half an hour, sometime in hour or sometime after 3-4 hours.
I tried cleaning of RAM, remove SSD and HDD and then re-plug the SSD and HDD, no luck.
Then I tried restore system in back date, but again no luck
then I clean installed the Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.3374 (64bit), still no luck.
Noticeable point is that my system is heating up.
Average temp. of SSD 40 degree, HDD 46 degree and CPU temp 85 degree (mostly while charging). I have also tried changing of charger, but same results.
Kindly help me identify the cause of problem, whether Hardware or any software, so that I can proceed accordingly
Regards

Ideally, your CPU temperature should be around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius (140 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit) when running essential apps and around 40 to 45 degrees Celsius (104 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit) when sitting idle. Moreover, the safe CPU temperature range for gaming is roughly 70 to 80 degrees Celcius. If your CPU is regularly shooting above these temperature ranges, you need to clean your PC, improve the cooling system, and re-apply thermal paste.

Make sure the fan(s) are clean and the vent(s) are not blocked by debris.
A repaste might be in order so, here is how to do it:

However, my friend have HP Service Center and he checked the Fan is OK.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.

If the fan is working properly and not blocked by debris and you are
still getting temps like you posted while not working with it then this
is a pretty sure sign that the thermal paste is drying up and needs to
be replaced with a fresh coat. use something like Kryonaut :

Thanks a lot for suggestion.
I did the Fan and Fan and debris cleaning and thermal paste myself today.
However, yesterday I reset my Google Chrome after then there is no Freeze / Hang problem.
But, the CPU temperature is still around 75-80 degree.
I doubt on Internal Battery now.
Plz suggest me the solution.

Operating temps whether it be watching a movie, Editing, Playing games etc will be different across most cpu's, there isn't a generalized safe temp for cpu's Nor will every gamer on the planet cpu sit between 70 and 80 when playing games. Also, saying this based on purely "i7 6th gen" just aint enough info to give advise on temps etc. Yeah laptop fair enough but still. i sit around 40-45 when chilling with some web pages open and maybe a football manager game, few monitors, In game under load anything from the same to 60's, Doesnt mean ever other cpu will being doing the same temp wise to performance base.

My system hangs 3 times during last 24 Hrs and 2 time auto reboot while it was idle.
I suspect any software causing this.
So, please guide me to identify the culprit software.

Im all good mate, I was asking for more info and he took offence to that for some reason! Never know what will set some internet dwellers off!
If you could show us everything thats running, even through task manager would suffice and we can have a look. It will be worth clean booting and seeing if the issue persists first though, just hope i dont offend anyone by agreeing with them either!

One question for you. Where is the notebook situated? is it on a desk or is the notebook on a notebook stand?
Do you feel air coming from the fan and hear the fan speed up when the temps are high?
Do you have the "HP Support Assistant" software installed on your notebook?
If you do not, install and look it over for possible fix(s).
Once that is installed and working, you might want to look at the
"Performance Tune Check".
This will only work if you have the Support Assistant installed.
If none of these work , you might want to look at the fan control program from GitHub:
I don't know if this will work but, it might help out.
