Windows 11 Home 26H2 26300.9457
Recently installed 26H2 on PC.

However, after going to Windows Update when the PC restarted, it informed me that '2026-09 Preview Update KB5124010 (26300.9550) is available'.

What's going on ? Why is telling me this ? I thought KB5124010 was a preview to 26H2.

I don't understand what 26300.9550 is offering compared to 26300.9457. I'm generally reluctant to install 'preview updates', and 9550 is showing as an optional update.

I already installed 26H2 earlier this morning, when Windows Update informed me of it. Therefore I don't understand why the optional one is showing.

9550 is the public preview of the October patch Tuesday update.
9457 is the most recent public Patch Tuesday update

To be fair, there really isn't much point in waiting, it won't make the slightest difference. If it's showing as an update in your system, you may as well install it. Your choice though.

I've personally never once had any issues with 'preview updates'. I've just installed them.

Clearly if it concerns you, don't install it.
