Sorry long post but Complicated and I am Stuck

Hello I have three ASUS H610i-Plus-D4 based PCs with gen 12 intel i3 or i5 CPUs

All three motherboards are on F5 BIOS default settings

All three systems were build from original Win7 licenses then upgraded to win10 and last year to Win11 now at 25H2

All these system have the same working Sleep procedure I require from Sleep:
Warm Start from Sleep (System Still Powered On) Desktop Restores as was.
Cold Start from Sleep (System Powered Off) Desktop Restores as was.
Basically I can put the PC in Sleep state, Power off and when I boot in the morning they are back where they were.

So one of the system I wanted to CPU upgrade so I fitted an i5-14600 and when booted windows crashed and after a couple of tries it would not boot at all.
So after some research it was basically due to BIOS and Intel Management Engine out of date.

So I fitted the original i5-12400 gen-12 CPU brought BIOS up to latest 3810.
Then installed Win10 22H2 and latest Intel ME drive and Engine etc.
Then I let the system install all updates from MS site all the why up to Win11 25H2

So now I have a nice clean stable Win11 install with Warm Start from Sleep (System Still Powered On) working just as expected.

However, and I have tried everything I can to get Cold Start from Sleep (System Powered Off) to work.
Basically the system boots up from Sleep power on to default desktop.

---------- Clue is in the two system where Sleep recovers from power off powercfg reports: ---------

powercfg -availablesleepstates
The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S3)
Hibernate
Hybrid Sleep
Fast Startup

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

----- Rebuilt system that does not recover from power off sleep ------

powercfg -availablesleepstates
The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S3)
Hibernate
Fast Startup

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Hybrid Sleep
The hypervisor does not support this standby state.

-------------------------------

Basically Hybrid Sleep is missing and I have tried everything I can find on the web to fix it and nothing seems to work any ideas PLEASE.

Many thanks in advance imk

PS have been at this for two days working with Copilot and it has just looped, run out of ideas

Exactly what is the difference between the two states? I do not undretsand what difference you are trying to describe.
Perhaps you could post a couple of screenshots so that your readers can understand your situation better.

Denis many thanks for you post

Good PC
Sleep test 1. Put PC to Sleep leave power on, left button mouse ,PC wakes up with desktop as was before sleep
Sleep test 2. Put PC to Sleep power off, power on ,PC boots up with desktop as was before sleep.

Bad PC
Sleep test 1. Put PC to Sleep leave power on, left button mouse ,PC wakes up with desktop as was before sleep
Sleep test 2. Put PC to Sleep power off, power on ,PC boots up with desktop blank desktop (did not save sleep state).

Question how to make Bad PC same as good PC?

If what you mean is that these computers resume from sleep with all their previous applications still showing [and their windows laid out as they had been before]
All these system have the same working Sleep procedure I require from Sleep:
Warm Start from Sleep (System Still Powered On) Desktop Restores as was.
Cold Start from Sleep (System Powered Off) Desktop Restores as was.
but this computer is not running those previous applications
the system boots up from Sleep power on to default desktop.
then I wonder if the computer has not, in fact, slept but has crashed in the interim period so it is now re-startiing rather than waking from Sleep.

You could set up an Event viewer, Custom view to check this:-
Event viewer, Custom view definition - Power - Sleep-Hibernate-S0 transitions - my post #9 - ElevenForum
You could also set up another to show Starts & Shutdowns. The procedure would be the same but the Custom view defintion could be that given in the xml within this zip file.

Our posts overlapped.
Sleep test 2. Put PC to Sleep power off, power on ,PC boots up with desktop blank desktop (did not save sleep state).
I think you should confirm what has been happening using the Event Viewer, Custom views I suggested.
I think it has either not slept at all or it has crashed during sleep.

And then I think your initial steps could usefully be
1 Re-installing the display driver, then, if necessary,
2 Checking for updates to Bios and to all other drivers.

Best of luck,
Denis

Denis many thanks for reply,
Sorry if me bit frosty but been at this for days, what it boils down to is MS/Intel don't see Hybrid Sleep function being useful.
They seem to think that people want to put PC in Sleep (power on) or Hibernate (power off)
Clearly they are not thinking of PC in Sleep (power on) and then getting a power cut and all work lost, that is just too deep for them.

Me been in IT for 57 years now from days of PDP8 and was one of first to have an IBM XT on my desk running DOS 3.3 in UK
I have seen many ideas in IT come and go some good and some so bad they almost killed hundreds of people, True!
I wonder if this lack of Hybrid Sleep is one of them or MS/Intel will wake up and go actually Hybrid Sleep was really good idea let put it back.
I live in hope.
I do however wonder what darkness is hiding in AI

I still wonder if your computer is achieving sleep at all.
Event viewer will tell you.

I use S3 Sleep and I use Hibernate. I've never used hybrid sleep but I can appreciate that there might be some benefit in being able to resume a desktop computer quickly with a fallback of its hibernation file in case of power interuptions.
My desktop resumes from hibernation so quickly that I've never bothered investigating any alternative for it. I might never have used S3 Sleep on it.
My older laptops generally use S3 Sleep since they have battery backup.
A newer laptop has S0 Modern standby [aka S0 Low power idle] so I use hibernation if I'm going to be away from it for a while.

HI,
I tested on my PC indicating Standby (S3) and Hibernate.
In Windows Features, Turn Windows features on or off,
the check boxes for Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform were clear.
Then I went in the UEFI BIOS to Advanced, CPU Setup and disabled Intel Virtualization Technology, this also disabled VT-d and TxT.
Now Hybrid Sleep is back.
Don't know what further consequences but there you are.

Ciao, Han

Edit, typo and style. :-)

Hello han jansen and many thank for you post.
I had another deep google and for the same solution as yours.

Disable Virtualization: Look for settings like "Intel Virtualization Technology" (VT-x)

and now cold start sleep working same as old install.

Basically this main PC of mine was build on Win7 H110i motherboard then upped to win10, then moved to H610i board and upped to win11 so the Hybrid sleep function was obviously carried forward from win7 install and new BIOS visualization enabled did not affect it.

However I decided that a new install of Win11 would be a good thing to clear out the Registry and old drivers etc so i bought a new larger NVMe and installed Win11 25H2 to it.
Now cold sleep does not work because visualization is on in BIOS and new install does not enable hybrid sleep.
Spent frustrating two days working with AI to try and find a fix including hacking the new registry reinstalled drivers updated BIOS etc no way could i enable hybrid sleep

Put the original NVMe back in and power off sleep works fine, WHY no hardware change.

Any how this morning first thing asked google and found Disable Virtualization: quick tweak reboot and Hybrid sleep enabled and power off sleep working fine.

Thank you for your post and best have wonderful Christmas IMK
