Windows 11 is now five years old

If you run Windows 11 on a rather old unsupported computer that still has a floppy drive, it works fine on Windows 11, as well as a USB floppy drive. I don't find it wrong to keep backwards compatibility. Much better than removing features still in use like Apple does. Imagine a rather expensive MacBook having only a couple of USB Type-C ports! No standard USB (type A), no ethernet, no HDMI, nothing! You have to buy adapters for everything. This is very ridiculous, expensive and less portable. Similarly for legacy features that are removed from Mac OS. Thankfully Microsoft is not Apple.

Don't jinx it! One thing Windows are known for is backwards compatibility. You can run a Windows XP or even Windows 98 application on Windows 11. OK not always, but you can make it work most of the times. Similarly you can use any 64-bit driver on Windows 11, except for Intel graphics drivers that are locked by Intel to install only on Windows 7. If ever Microsoft abandons backwards compatibility, it would be a huge mistake, so please don't.

I have it on two computers and it works very well for me. I have never had a failed update and have a pretty clean Event Viewer. If it were not for the three a day Microsoft 365 Office 16 errors, (which has nothing to with Windows 11 OS performance) my System One machine can go five or six days at a time with no Errors or Warnings in the EV. You gotta like that.

😲 only 5 or 6 days. you have to have low expectations for a OS. :-)

My machines runs without errors in the logs for months, even years on some computers (except if its a power outage that do generate errors as i have no UPS)
My win 7 machine i use every day has now 184 days of uptime (since the last power-outage). i have no warnings or errors at all.
The only complaining in the log is that windows defender cant go online to update, so i dont count that as it dont have internet access by choice do to EOL

Already happening. Ever notice how Windows OEMs have been dropping not only what you mention, but also trackpad / mousepad buttons and HD indicator lights?

How Windows laptops are becoming more and more MacBook-like?

Look around... 🙄

Well, three to five events per month is not that bad actually. Those are all mostly harmless "Warnings" and not "Errors", that mean nothing, as far as the OS not functioning properly. They are mostly timeout errors and minor things like that. Not everything that pops up in the Event Viewer is a genuine error with the OS, some of them are very benign and are nothing to be alarmed about.

But I am impressed that you don't even have those, on any of your machines - that is impressive indeed. :-)

The Samsung NVMe PM9C1a 1024GB SSD does not use a Phison NAND controller. Instead, it uses Samsung's in-house developed Piccolo (S4LY022) 6-Core 4 Channel Controller. The PM9C1a utilizes a controller built using Samsung's 5-nanometer process and seventh-generation V-NAND technology. 🤔

Don't have to. 😄

Already happening. Ever notice how Windows OEMs have been dropping not only what you mention, but also trackpad / mousepad buttons and HD indicator lights?

How Windows laptops are becoming more and more MacBook-like?

Look around... 🙄
Just another reason to keep our old perfectly working laptops as long as we can. My test laptop (see 1st system specs), where I test any new Windows version before upgrading my main PC (see 2nd system specs) doesn't have SSE4.2 and is stuck with 23H2. I don't expect performance to be improved by magic. It is a slightly slower than running Windows 7 because of the more applications running in the background. Having the same applications running in Windows 7 would also make it slow. That's one more advantage of Windows. Latest Mac OS requires less than 5-6 years old Apple computer, while Windows can be installed on much older computers. Despite being a little slow it runs Windows 11 fine.

i cheat a bit.... Less processes running = less possible error events. 😁
I have always uninstalled/disabled things i dont need in my OS's.. so it is just less stuff that can create warnings and errors. 😇
And also i dont run win10/11home/pro that is known to have more issues then win7 that was one of the most stable versions.

Then my Linux machines is not really fair to compare to windows 10/11Home/pro as it has a total different structure.. if you going to compare linux and windows in stability, then you have to compare it with windows server/LTSC workstation, as those is the most stable windows versions. :-)

From the first version, Windows 11 21H1 up to 25H2 my main system (3rd generation Intel Core-i7, see 2nd system specs) can run Windows 11 bypassing compatibility check to upgrade or using the respective Enablement Package. 26H2 will also be available as an Enablement Package, so it should not have any stricter hardware requirements and can be installed on all computers running 24H2 and 25H2. Let's hope we will be able to keep using Windows 11 on our unsupported computers for at least 2-3 years more, if not another 5 years. Happy Anniversary! By comparison, Windows 95 is 31 years old and Windows NT 4.0 (the first 32-bit Windows NT version of the NT family) is 30 years old. Windows 10 was initially Windows NT 6.4, but they changed that to 10.0.19xxx to align with Windows Phone versions. Windows 11 is, guess what? Windows NT 10.0.2xxxx, yes it is an improved version of Windows 10 64-bit with new features. Much like the original Windows 8.0 (NT 6.2) and Windows 8.1 (NT 6.3). Windows 11 25H2 is version 10.0.26200 and 26H2 will be version 10.0.26300. I am currently running Windows 11 25H2 build 8655, so the full version number is 10.0.26200.8655

I like it and have had no problems. I don't tweak it and use it as it is.
