Windows 11 is now five years old

Have you checked the standard inteface options provided in the current range of Microsogft Surface Models, which most of the other major OEMs seem to closely follow with their own designs? Seems like Microsoft is doing everything it can to emulate Apple's businees model (and hardware/software options), short of announcing the end of legacy 32-bit software compatibility; and abandoning Intel/AMD; but who knows how far they might go with with their growing Qualcom business relationship. :D

I like to believe Microsoft is not that stupid to let down millions of Windows users by abandoning 32-bit applications, or even worse, x86_64 architecture and support ARM64 only. Compared to hardware and software compatibility of x64 version of Windows 11, Windows 11 for ARM64 is a joke. Much better than the dreaded Windows RT (Windows 8 for ARM), but still lightyears behind the x64 version. Don't forget that 16-bit applications and games can still be used in any 32-bit version of Windows including Windows 10 32-bit and with a third-party NTVM in Windows 11! Yes, I have done that too. I play old Windows 3.1 games in Windows 11.

I would rather run Amiga emulator on my smartphone and play some good Amiga games, albeit the virtual joystick is not as easy as the real thing. I also run an Android equivalent of DosBox and play my MS-DOS games... along with Sega Master System and Nintendo NES emulators.

Totally, and that's not a good thing. In fact, it blows snot, big time. :nope:

Dell's business laptops are trying to look like slick MacBooks instead of focusing on the business needs of certain hardware functions. I miss those indicator lights and I miss those trackpad / mousepad buttons, all part of the tactile hardware interface.

Just boycott these ridiculous models. If most people prefer models with legacy features and avoid buying these useless laptops, the manufacturers will reconsider. Besides, if you want your laptop for Office work you can buy an older refurbished model at half the money or even less. Why buy the latest and newest? Unless you are a gamer or do some serious 3D work.

If you don't really need the speed and features of new models (such as Wi-Fi 6), then buy a refurbished one. You will save money, you can run Windows 11 on it, either officially or bypassing compatibility check and you avoid all that lack of useful legacy features. If you are a gamer, prefer to buy a desktop. For the same money you get more performance and more fps than a gaming laptop. Besides, how frequently you move you PC to a friend to play? Don't your friends have their own gaming PC?

I don't see any "legacy feature" missing like touchpad, ports etc. It's all there. Ultrabooks is another story. We were talking about laptops. Naturally older refurbished models should not miss any features either.

I don't see any "legacy feature" missing like touchpad, ports etc. It's all there. Ultrabooks is another story. We were talking about laptops. Naturally older refurbished models should not miss any features either.

I already have a Pro 14 and it's missing a lot of the hardware interface my old Dell Latitude E7450 has. I know what I'm talking about.

I don't have a photo right now, but I have kept my old white tower since I had an Intel Pentium 4. It even has an old white 5.25" floppy disk drive (disconnected) and two old white ATAPI DVD-RW drives (also disconnected) to cover the holes because I have lost the respective plastic covers... I had a combo PCIe to SATA II and IDE card to connect the two old ATAPI drives, but I then replaced it with a PCIe to USB 3.0 card and eventually with a combo PCIe to USB 3.0 and SATA III card to connect my SATA SSD and work faster. The other PCIe x1 port is next to the PCIe x16 port for the graphics card and cannot be used because the card is two slots wide. How stupid of Asus to put the other slot there! It is useless in that location.

For games...just plug in a joystick/controller over BT or USB. Works flawlessly.

I found a joystick very similar to the Amiga arcade style joystick 🕹️ but with four buttons. This has a standard game port connection, but I also have a Logilink game port to USB adapter so I can connect it to my PC or laptop. As close as it gets to the authentic experience of playing arcade games or Amiga games. It also works on my smartphone using a USB type-C OTG adapter, but naturally not in all applications. This joystick uses the good old DirectPlay protocol, but I have also found a little utility called X output that translates from DirectPlay to Xinput if I want to use it with a modern game requiring Xinput game controller.
