You can move Start back to the left of the taskbar, you know. It's an option in the taskbar settings.

Interesting to see that the generic installed key is the same as the W10 Pro key.

Oh, and my two favourite Brink tutorials work in W11: show seconds on the clock, and bring back the Windows Photo Viewer.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package.

PSA:

For people who say "But "Microsoft" said Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows", that is false.
None of the higher-ups ever said that.

It was Jerry Nixon, and he is only an Architect & Engineer.

Just looking at the Winver output above and it just looks wrong where the version number is shown, the Kerning is unbalanced and looks like a cut and paste job whether this is by Microsoft or someone else is of course unknown

I don't know if this is because it is a Dev version or it is made by Unknown.

Still no sign of a redesigned File Explorer. No rounded corners on actual windows. Most of the interface is exactly the same. I know it's a preview, but things like a fully redesign File Explorer should already be rolling out if they plan to release it in a few months. Looks like the initial release is going to be another half baked job. Still, the direction looks better than Windows 10.

My Computer

I just finished installing Windows 11 Pro in a VM and so far so good. Being a leak I didn't sign in or try using a key when I did the install.

It seems like a glossy new design over Windows 10 maybe? I don't like the start menu. I need lists with words, not just icons - is that configurable?
