HI there

I recently purchased a new Asus laptop, which i am really enjoying using. I am a little confused however by the power settings, for instance when i want to run a full virus scan on the laptop i want the power to stay on all the time till it completes its task.

I can do this simply by temporarily changing the 'sleep & screen' settings found in System > Power & Battery, but i thought i would like to create a plan which i did, using the control panel route, it shows as saved and is tickable, but when i go back to the windows settings window it does not show as an option, furthermore it looks like it's not been implemented at all.

Also I have three options in the 'Power Mode' panel in the windows settings panel the options i have are 'Best power & efficiency' .. 'Balanced; and 'Best performance' but when i choose one of them and then go to the 'Screen & Sleep' panel it always shows a 3 minute timeout to sleep !!

It's like it does not matter which you choose it's still going to do the same, is there any way to set them up myself ?

That slider thing is not directly related to your Power plan settings in 'Screen & Sleep'.

when i want to run a full virus scan
A Quick scan is all that is required normally.
A Full scan is used after Windows Security has already detected & removed malware [automatically or during a Quick scan]. The Full scan that you then run is designed to detect & remove inactive debris from the malware infection that might have been left behind when the malware was removed.
If Windows Security has not reported any malware then there is no point in running a Full scan.

All the best,
Denis

I may be wrong, but I think all Antivirus software prevent computer going in Sleep mode while scanning, so you shouldn't worry. Normally the computer will sleep after the scan is complete and while waiting for your input.

I am amazed to see that I did not also suggest checking [& posting] your list of available power states using this command
PowerCfg -a
